A gastropub is a pub run by an experienced cook from a good res6tautrant, who has started his own business, with good food at costs above usual pub meals and below similar meals at restaurants. The Independent newspaper of 26 March 2001 listed three of these. Meals are about 12 pounds, single dishes 9 pounds. The first two are rather noisy.

Hi Jim, can you tell me what area you'll be in? There's now so many gastro pubs it's hard to know where to start.
Ben's suggestions are all good - indeed the Eagle was the first. The Duke of Cambridge (also known as The Organic by locals) is an (yes, you've guessed it) entirely organic pub. Even the beer, wine, cola and cigarettes sold are organic. So don't go demanding a diet Coke. The organic booze certainly helps alleviate the hangovers. It has a non-smoking restaurant and section in the bar if you're looking to escape us puffers. Food v.good.
Most good gastro pubs are in more residential areas rather than the West End. But they make a great excuse to explore (very interesting) areas off the main tourist drag.
