London & Edinburgh Public Transport App
What are best apps for accessing public transport in London and Edinburgh? Will my google maps app be sufficient? I would like something that identifies my current location and calculates bus routes/walking to destination. Thank you

We used Citymapper religiously whilst in London a month ago. I really liked the app because it showed all possible routes grouped by mode (bus, tube, rail), how long each option would take, how much walking was involved in each, and how much each would cost. And you can save places to it for quick access, such as 'Home'. We set Home to our hotel and then just hit the 'Get me home' option in the app to quickly display all possible ways to get back to the hotel. The search feature in the To/From entry fields was very good and always returned the location I was looking for.
We found Citymapper wasn't so good at guiding us when walking. This may be because we were using a 'MiFi' personal WiFi hotspot with my phone (non-dual-mode Android). But we found Google Maps had an edge for walking as it seemed more accurate and showed turn directions and street names to turn on. Lastly, a good old-fashioned London map proved darn useful at times.
This reminds me---I really need to go out and give Citymapper a glowing review in the Google Play Store.

I use the Lothian bus app a lot, they just updated it a week or so ago so I am just getting used to it,but as long as you have your GPS on it will identify where you are and give you options on nearby bus stops and times of the buses and trams.
Edinburgh has an excellent bus service and pretty cheap.
