London - Down to two locations - what do you think???

I've narrowed accommodation down to two:

B&B in Cartwright Gardens with private bath near Russell Sq. tube.

or

Studion apartment Nell Gwynne House on Sloane Avenue, 10 minute walk from Sloane Sq. or South Kensington tube.

We'll be in London for 7 nights, flying into Gatwick and out of London City, if that's relevant.

I've had the maps out, and both seem good, but maybe someone who knows London can weigh in with advice. We'll be seeing all the usual touristy things.

Cheers.

Sloane Square is a good location, within easy walking distance of assorted shops and restaurants.

Sloane Avenue is a very nice location with great shops along King's Road, restaurants along Fulham Road and Sloane Avenue itself and the area around Brompton Cross.
Nell Gwynn House specifically, though...I guess it's alright for a limited time.

hsv - what does that mean, exactly? I'm looking for an honest assessment.

Keep in mind that Sloane Square is in a very posh area of London and prices for eating around there are high.

Both locations are totally fine - really good in fact.

But for a week --all things being equal . . . I'd choose a flat, even just a studio, almost every time.

There is extra space, a kitchen/kitchenette, maybe a washer, etc. Having a kitchen doesn't force one to cook --but it is nice to have one for snacks, light meals, chilling wine/beverages . . .

"<i>Keep in mind that Sloane Square is in a very posh area of London and prices for eating around there are high.</i>"

Generally I find myself eating out and about wherever I happen to be during the day/evening -- not necessarily next door to my flat.

Some of the places on Cartwright Gardens are pretty marginal. The Jenkins for instance. Sloane Square is a more upscale area although not as many transport options nearby. If I had to choose with just the information you've given us I'd definitely go with Sloane Square.

I stayed at the Crescent Hotel in Cartwright Gardens when doing research at the British Museum and again when visiting as a tourist two years ago and found it a good location, with easy access provided by Russell square tube and an easy walk to King's Cross station. Breakfast was good and staff friendly. All the hotels there look attractive from outside at least.

I'd definietly go for Nell Gwynn House mainly because of it's proximity to Kings Rd. I've stayed in both locations and much prefer that site. Lots of good shops along Kings and Fulham and Brompton. an excellent not too expensive restaurant nearby on Sloane AVe., Venosi, we ate ther 3 times on our last trip and I have it down for our Oct trip. We have been to LOndon at least once usually twice a year for he last 40 years and always try to stay in that area or nearer South Ken or Gloucester Rd. The number 11 bus tht runs along KIngs Rd will take you just about anywhere you want to go
