London, Bank of England, currency exchange

Have any fodorites been to the Bank of England to exchange currency? I know the bank has a museum and I've visited the museum some years ago. My local bank has some old notes and I am wondering if there is anything to see in the Bank of England's buliding when exchanging notes and if the process is quick and easy. I don't need to purchase the old notes from my local bank and would only do so if exchanging the notes is quick and easy and if have I have a chance to see the interior of the grand old building. If not, I'll just wait until I arrive to use the ATM.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you saying the you can buy out of circulation notes at your local bank (?) and then you want to go to the BofE to change them for current ones?
That sounds like more effort than just using an ATM. If you really want to do it here is the info

and yes the Bank does have a museum

I agree buying the old style notes and changing them at the bank is not as convenient as using an ATM on arrival. My main incentitive for going to the Bank of England is to see the building and the interior if it's worthwhile. (If not, I'll just head to the an ATM once I'm in England.) I've been to the Bank of England's museum in the past.

Unless they're giving you a discount on buying out-of-date notes, why bother?

Interesting idea, but since the Bank talks about its "Public Counter", I don't suppose you'd get to see very much beyond that point. Your best bet might be to see if you can make your trip when the Bank has special open events (City of London Festival "Open Door" 2 & 9 July, or Open House Weekend 17/18 September).

Opps, sorry my last reply posted three times, not sure why. I forgot to say obviously, I won't buy the notes and try to exchange them. Hope this doesn't post three times, apologies if it does.
