London airport to hotel and suggestions

Next Wednesday we are traveling to London for the first time. We are a family of 4 with two teens (15 and 18).
We fly to Heatrow and will stay close to the Victoria station at The WIndermere. Here are my questions:

1. Should we take the train from Heatrow to Victoria and then walk for 10 minutes to the hotel?? Suitcases and all.

2. Buy metro passes....should we use the oyster? one for each person?

3. We leave the 30th and here is what we plan to do:
Take a hop-on hop-off double decker
Tower of London
Tour the Shakespeare Globe Theatre
WIcked on Friday night
Tennis Match on Saturday afternoon (Barclays)
Westminster Abbey
Visit the Cabinet War rooms

COmments? Suggestions? PLease help us!

only time for a short answer right now - but others will jumpin.

There is no train from Heathrow to Victoria. You can take the underground though. Heathrow to Hammersmith, get off and walk just across the platform and catch a District line tube train to Victoria.

But for 4 of you, I'd really recommend pre-booking a car service like justairports.com. They will pick you up at LHR and drop you at your hotel.

Another vote for justairports.com - have used them several times, both arriving and departing, and been quite pleased.

You can visit several of the sites on your list while doing the HOHO bus. Doesn't look like you are trying to cram too much into a short time.
Wicked is great!

My friend and I used justairports.com in May and were completely happy with them. Very efficient, very clean vehicles and ON TIME for the return trip (which pleased me greatly).

Add more of the touristy stuff-Harrods,boat ride on the Thames if the weather is decent, changing of the guard at Buckingham, pint of beer at a real English pub, etc. Have fun!

For 5 days or so, it will probably pay you to get 7-day travelcards, unless you're sure you won't be travelling before 0930 on any day, or you'll only use buses, or you won't use public transport much (in which case, pay as you go might be more advantageous, but not by a great deal). A travelcard also gets you one-third off boat fares.

And yes, everybody will need their own ticket.

If you buy your travelcard from a tube station, it will come on an Oystercard anyway. The national/suburban rail companies are linked to a 2for1 scheme for people who hold their tickers, and you could get a paper travelcard from them at Victoria mainline station: but there may be some queueing, and the only attraction on your list that's covered is the Shakespeare's Globe tour:

You will also find this bus map useful (even 15 and 18 year olds can quite enjoy sitting up front on the top deck):

If you enter a slightly different URL from the one given by PatrickLondon, you'll find a list of more than 100 National Rail 2-for-1 offers, including the Tower of London. It's www.daysoutguide.co.uk.

If you're packing light, taking the Tube to Victoria and walkng to your hotel would be easy. Change at Hammersmith as janisj suggested. The fare is £4.00.

Tube will be £16 for four, Justairports will be upward of £35 for the same. I have done it both ways, and if you can afford it, having someone meet you at the airport and drive you where you are going after an all-night flight is wonderful. If you book Justairports on line, you will know in advance what it will cost, useful because you have to pay cash.

If you buy your Oyster card at something other than rush hour, the clerks will be very good about helping you to determine what you need. I found this suggestion on here, and it proved to be absolutely true last month at Waterloo. In fact, the less you can do at rush hour in London, the happier you will be.

THANK YOU ALL!
I booked with justairports. I'll pay them cash and it'll be 37 plus parking.
Now, I want to do the hop-on hop off the first day as we will be tired and it'll be good to get oriented. I looked into the original and they suggest I buy online and save....they have a family package that is 2 adults & 3 child....is that 3 kids or a 3rd person who is a child? We are four and the kids are 15 and 18.....
Your opinions are very welcomed
I also posted a message with a tentaive itinerary.....please comment!!!
THANK YOU
