DH and I will arrive at Heathrow at 10:00am and expect to be at our hotel near Buckingham Palace about midday. We'll be jet lagged but trying to stay our and active. If the weather is fine in late September we would like to have lunch (suggestions?) then walk past Westminster Abbey and Parliament to the London Eye. We'll arrive on a weekday and hope to ride the Eye if the wait is not too long. We would appreciate suggestions for a Plan B should it turn out to be a rainy day.

Get the number 11 bus and sit on top for the ride down Victoria Street and round Parliament Square. Either stay on it up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square and drop in at the National Gallery and/or National Portrait Gallery (they're free so you can drop in and out as you like); or if you want to go on to the London Eye, either chance the walk across Westminster Bridge, or get a bus over from the stop just outside the tube station.

Thanks Patrick, this is good to know. I like being able to pop into one of the museums you mention and being able to leave if jet-lag gets the better of us. We thought we might try tea in place of dinner and could do this at our hotel. However I am interested in other non-hotel tea options if anyone has suggestions.
