Have you ever been there? I would visit before considering trying to live there.

Do you have the legal right to live and work there or would you need to get a special visa?

Do you have a profession or career that will be easily translatable and will provide sufficient income? (London is NOT cheap.)

At one point I was considering doing this for a 2 or 3 year assignment. My company did have an opening in the London office but life intervened. But in the early process of considering I found that the salary (even with a differential for London) would not allow me to live in the same style as in NYC. Quality housing in a good/convenient neighborhood was especially expensive.

Yes, London is much expansive, especially the apartments, but if you know someone that live there yet, I think that you're lucky, because you've more possibility to find work and one roof where you can sleep.

If you have a place to stay, a job, and a passport or visa that allows you to live there - then go for it.

I think a lot of things about living in London. What, exactly, are you asking?

It's busy, crowded in the centre, you will have long travelling times to get to see most places, most people move fairly briskly and aren't always tolerant of those who don't. But that's because, being a big, world city, there is so much to see and do, so much going on, such a variety of people; but you wouldn't necessarily get to know many people on more than a superficial and functional level.

But by the same token, you would find your life focussing around your own "village" neighbourhood(s); and you would find your own spaces, including quiet and peaceful ones if you want.
