London- Tower of London Ceremony of the keys

a couple of questions??

when I write for tickets, can I ask for different dates so I can most likely get them or is it only one date at a time?

where can I get International Reply Coupons?

thanks

melissa

I believe you can give them all the dates you have available and they will give you the date they have free.

You can get the International Reply Coupons at your local post office. Even my very small village had them.

I just sent away for tickets yesterday. I gave them all of the dates I'll be in London.

I put the required postage on the envelope (.84). Should I have purchased the International Coupons instead?

Would need to be UK postage in correct amt for SASE, or else the reply coupons x2, because your tickets will be mailed from UK.

Never mind. I just did a google search and found out that your local postage isn't honored when you enclose a return evelope to an item in a foreign country. It's back to the post office for me.

Good thing I was surfin' this site tonite!

How long does it take for the tickets to arrive? I sent away for tickets about two weeks ago and have not received a reply...

I am topping this post because I have been told definitively by my local post office that they no longer sell international reply coupons. I called three different post offices and finally got in touch with someone in charge at the main branch. I failed to ask if you can purchase British stamps but it looks like there is a Royal Mail site where you can print them off with your computer? Has anyone else run into this?

I've almost decided to just forget about going - since it kind of takes the bulk out of an evening anyway - but I almost feel obligated not to miss something so historic!

per the USPS website they sell International Reply coupons for $1.85.

"372.2 Availability:
Reply coupons may be requisitioned by Post Office facilities in the same manner as postage stamps. The coupons should be stocked at Post Office facilities that have a demand for them."

So even POs that don't carry them can and should be able to order them for you . . . .

They told me they would not be ordering anymore or selling the few they have stuck back in "the vault", so I feel like I'm kind of stuck!

If it's any consolation, Royal Mail is selling IRCs with a validity up to 2009. Their print-your-own-stamps service requires a subscription, so it's really for small businesses rather than this sort of situation.

I found someone who happened to have a 1 pound stamp and a 50p stamp to sell me so I guess I can just send those on a self-addressed envelope. But this does all seem absurd. I'll keep complaining and see what else I can find out...

Thanks, Patrick - I tried to go that route and could not get the online store to accept my US address. I've
e-mailed them, though. I want to continue to investigate because the need may arise again in the future for me to receive mail from the UK in this fashion.

We went to the Ceremony of the Keys a couple of years ago. At that time, our little post office had the reply coupons. I had also e-mailed to London, using the website information and I heard back quickly about my request. It was an easy process.

The Ceremony is interesting, and quite atmospheric to be inside the Tower grounds at nightfall, as they lock it up as they've done for ages. We enjoyed it. Good luck.

I mailed my letter on January 4, requesting tickets for one of three dates in June, and got my letter back with my ticket on January 24, if I recall correctly.

As far as the international reply coupon goes, if there is more than one post office in your area, then you may have to hunt around to find the one that carries them in stock. They are all supposed to order them, if requested, but in a town with multiple post offices, it seems to be common practice for one post office to carry all the exotic stuff, and the others simply to refer customers there.

One other note: for some reason, they ask you to enlcose TWO international reply coupons.

yep - they used to require 1 coupon but for the last couple of years or so it has been 2 coupons.

Ihere are many POs in my area and about 20% of them have the coupons in stock.

Hmmm... Does anyone know why two IRCs are requested? Do they send out more than one reply or are the tickets heavy...or what?

crazy4Hawaii: I wondered about that myself. They certainly didn't return the extra one to me, and one would have been sufficient to pay for the return postage. Even if you have multiple people in your party, they only send one ticket.

Perhaps they use the extras to pay for folks who don't follow the instructions. Who knows.

One more thing for the original poster: I specified my dates and they chose the first one on the list. I suspect that if you put them in priority (I happened to put mine chronologically), they will give you the first available date on the list, be it chronological or otherwise.

Crazy - I had to go to our main mailing facility in the area to get them. The other post offices didn't carry them. Find out where the general mailing facility is in your town and they should carry them
