Mary,
Choose again (if possible). I wouldn't recommend either hotel. The Eden Plaza is on a busy corner and the rooms are very small.
The Kensington Edwardian is not much better, but is the better of the two. Again the rooms are pretty small (especially the singles) and so are the bathrooms. Although generally speaking the rooms are a little larger than the Eden Plaza.

Thanks Mike & Laurie. Unfortunately the Halycon out of my price range - I am travelling with my family (4 of us), & am coming from South Africa. Our exchange rate is not at all good at the moment because of the Zimbabwe situation. Therefore I have to look at the hotels in the lower price range. Any other suggestion re smaller hotels ?We do not want to go to the large touristy hotels. Many thanks.

Mary,
Here are my suggestions.
The Regent Palace Hotel - 2 star
I know you said you didn't want large and touristy but I'm recommending it anyway because of it's great location and value. It's very central (Piccadilly Circus). Good standard for price. Make sure you have a room with a private bathroom, as there are both options. Go to www.forte-hotels.co.uk then choose 'our hotels' then 'London Signature Hotels' then select by hotel name. They also have 4 bedded rooms, keeping the cost down further.
Alternatively, try the Windermere in Victoria or the Barkston Gardens in Earl's Court (might be a bit expensive for you) or the Royal Cambridge in Paddington (ask for a room at the front of the hotel, they are nicer.)
