We are traveling in August with 2 teens. Planning 3 nights in Loire. We are considering Chateau Des Ormeaux or Chateau de Nazelles ( both near Amboise) for 2 nights. We would like to go to Chinon and Usse. Should we stay 3 nights in Amboise chateau and do a day trip to Chonon/Usse or should we spend only 2 nights in Amboise and 3rd night in Chinon
Any feedback on hotels would be appreciated.

Those places are so close together it doesn;t really make sense to change hotels. We spend 6 night in a chateau near Chinon and saw many of the chateaux and other sights from there. Just be aware that many of the chateaus are deep in the countryside and on roads that have limited speeds - so don;t plan on driving 70 from one place to another.
I would do a day trip unless you want to stay in a specific hotel in Chinon.
Thanks! it's decided-we will stay put in 1 hotel for all 3 nights rather than move!
We stayed at Chateau de Nazelles this past September and loved it. The house is charming, the owners are delightful, and the setting is truly magical. We were there for only 2 nights so didn't have a chance to see Chinon, but Amboise was lovely. By the way, Veronique of Chateau de Nazelles steered us to a wonderful choice for dinner: L'Aubiniere. What a fabulous meal--among the best we had in France (most of our tiime was spent in Paris). Enjoy your trip!!
