Any suggestions for reliable lodging in Frankfurt? We are 2 seniors and will be staying 2 nights the end of this August. Our flight out of Frankfurt leaves around 10 a,m., so we thought it would be best to stay near the airport. But it also appears downtown is near, so that may not be an issue. Looking to spend around $100/night. B&B's are OK too. Any "must sees" during this short stay?

I've stayed twice at Motel One near the Frankfurt Airport. It's clean and comfortable and has a nice breakfast. It's about $100 or so per night.

They have a shuttle that you can take to the airport and then find transportation into the city. I've always had a car, so I haven't looked into transportation into the city.

There are lots of hotel recommendations on Frankfurt; do a search and you'll come up with all prices and locations.

The airport is accessible by train (4 per hour) from the main train station or by train and s-bahn/u-bahn from other areas of Frankfurt.

Staying near Romer would be good as there is a main square and restaurants and cafes. I've stayed near the main train station twice and found that location convenient. It's about a 20 minute walk to Romer.

Definitely stay in town rather than at the airport.

We stayed at the Steigenberger airport hotel about 2 years ago. A business hotel, clean and neat and maybe a little impersonal. However, it does have free shuttles to and from the airport every fifteen minutes. We had a very early flight with a child and so that was our reason for staying close to the airport. No complaints about that hotel.

I am also curious about the hotels in the Squaire (next to the airport), one of which is a Hilton Garden Inn, and it has direct access to the airport. We get to Frankfurt every year and so I have my eye on that hotel as a possbile for our family.

But the city is about 10 minutes by train (and there are many, many trains to the city). By all means stay in the city but I would not stay directly near the train station, if you have a choice. I understand it has been cleaned up a lot in the last few years, but I think there are better areas.

4 years ago my wife and I stayed at the Steigenberger Hotel Metropolitan directly across the street from the Frankfurt hauptbanhof. Like you we had an early morning flight. As I recall it was approximately a 20 minute train ride back to the airport. In order to meet your budget you would need to reserve a room with a non-refundable deposit. We really enjoyed the room; very modern and clean. TripAdvisor will give you a good sampling of reviews.

The commuter train takes 15 minutes from the heart of Frankfurt city (Hauptwache stop), and merely 11 minutes from the central station. A shuttle from one of those "airport" hotels would not be faster than that. Stay in the city where you find something to do in the evening, restaurants and pubs, instead of being stuck out in the sticks.

There are several nice hotels that are near the main train station, and the trains from here take 11 min. to the airport, with a train every 15 min. beginning at 04:15 in the morning.
Check Hamburger Hof, Steigenberger, the Pure, Hotel Concorde, Excelsior Hotel, Hotel Monopol, or Bristol Hotel.

A bit farther away, but still with a direct train to the airport, S-8 or S-9, just add 3 min. to the trip, is the stop Hauptwache. A good hotel here would be Hotel Mirimar.

Since it is August, you may want a hotel that offers air conditioning.

What are the dates of travel? There is a huge trade fair the last weekend in Aug. that will drive hotel rates sky high.

I use www.hrs.com to find hotels, as they often have better deals than the hotels themselves and have a very liberal cancellation policy. You can use the filters to find hotels with AC, etc.

You're lucky, that's the weekend when there are few business travellers who make up most of the customers of the hotels in Frankfurt.

If you want to spend 100 USD per night for a double room, I'd also think about hotels in Niederrad. This is an office district a little outside of Frankfurt city with several hotels which completely focus on business travellers and thus offer extremely good deals on the weekend.

There's a tram to the city centre taking about 20-25 minutes. Not as convenient as taking a hotel in the centre but okay (a taxi is about 15 euro if I remember correctly in case there's a gap in tram service).

The connection to the airport is nearly as good as from the main station (it's the first stop for all regional trains departing from the main station for the airport).

I can recommend from personal experience the "Innside Frankfurt Niederrad" which for your dates HRS offers at 75 euro a night and the "NH Frankfurt Niederrad" at 60 euro a night (both without breakfast which will be quite expensive).

The advantage of the Innside is that it's very close to the tram station (NH is about 5-10 minutes walking) which could take you to both the city centre and to the S-Bahn Station where yu can take the regional train for the airport.

The "Sheraton Frankfurt Congress Hotel" might offer amazing deals if you have Starwood points. I really like it and always stay there but it's a bit older. It's also very close to the tram.

As a word of caution, this part of Niederrad is an office district and thus rather dead in the weekend, especially in the night. In my opinion (based upon at least two hundred nights in hotels there) it's safe but it can feel a little strange if you walk there in the night.

If you want to go for Niederrad, maybe also look at the website of the Innside. At least in the past they had some very reasonably priced weekend packages including breakfast and so on which might beat the HRS price.

Stay in town. Several hotels adjacent to train station and just minutes to the airport. We stayed at Hamburger Hof in December for 115 euro per night - a bit over your budget but recently re-decorated small rooms and a very nice breakfast buffet included in our price.

Why would anyone stay in Niederrad, an office park area, boring as all get out, when for the same price you can stay in the middle of city, surrounded by restaurants, shopping, etc. That truly makes no sense at all.

I've looked at the hotels in HRS up to the price range given by frequentflyer (100 USD/75 euro). I don't know all of them but some. The quality of the hotels I know is not what you get for the same price in Niederrad.

If someone doesn't mind the tram ride to the city center and doesn't mind the missing breakfast, then these offer nice rooms within the given budget while it's not difficult to get to the airport.

Of course there are many very good hotels closer to the city center which I'd also prefer to Niederrad. But none I could recommend from personal experience is within the given budget
on HRS for that weekend.

What do you want in Niederrad? There is no advantage to staying at the airport because there is nothing to do. You have to bother with the transfer twice, both from/to the airport AND into the city. Doesn't make sense.
