Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids ages 11 and 14) will be in Paris for 3 nights in early July. Any hotel recommendations for a family of 4? We've stayed at Hotel Lutetia before, but the rate is more than we'd like to spend (about 600 US dollars for 2 adjoining rooms). I plan to look at vrbo.com for apartment rentals, but also thought I'd see if anyone has any recommendations. We would like to be able to walk to all the major sites as this is our kids' first trip to Paris. Thanks.

We stayed at Hotel Le Sainte Beuve in the sixth last summer. I picked this hotel based on reviews and some magazine articles. We had two non adjoining rooms for about 300 Euro per night. Although the location appears far, my family loved the neighborhood (away from the tourist buses, but near Luxembourg Gardens). My kids were 12 and 18, so they didn't mind walking. The rooms were nice, clean, but average. The staff is wonderful, very helpful and friendly.

The location of the Lutetia is great-with kids your age, I think staying in the 6th would probably be the most fun for then either near Odeon or down by the gardens where tilburg mentioned, if you don't mind being a bit further from the river.

Thanks. Hotel Le Sainte Beuve looks like it would work. That Trip Advisor list is great. I'll have to take the time to look those up, although it is nice to have a personal opinion on Hotel Le Sainte Beuve.

After reading the reviews, and getting 2 personal opinions here, I'm leaning toward Hotel Le Sainte Beuve. How far of a walk is it to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame? 15 minutes, 30 minutes, more? We like to walk (and will need to after all the food I'm sure we'll be eating), but I wanted to make sure we didn't end up an hour's walk away. We only have a short time so will be trying to see a lot in 3 days.

I stay near the Ste Beuve frequently -- It's about 1.25 miles to Notre Dame, maybe a bit more. Of course you know the Louvre is just beyond Notre Dame. The Eiffel Tower is farther. I'd guess 2.5 to 3 miles.

There are dozens of hotels closer to the Seine than the Ste Beuve if that is most important to you, and dozens cheaper than the Lutetia. Really, your budget is very generous (I'm assuming that is your budget per day, not for 3 days), you can have a choice of many hotels, probably most 3* hotels in St Germain or the Latin Qtr would be in your budget, and some 4*. You cannot be close to Notre Dame and close to the Eiffel Tower simultaneously--you just can't be within close walking distance of all those, it is impossible. Your children are old enough that there isn't any reason you can't introduce them to public transportation. To walk easily to many tourist sites, I think you should choose near the Seine.

The Hotel du Danube has special rates for families who want adjoining rooms, for example, you could check them. However, their regular rooms rates would be in your budget, so I'm sure any discount for families wanting two would make it better. http://www.hoteldanube.fr/tarifs.php

YOu could walk to everything you want but the Eiffel Tower from there. Well, of course you could walk there if you want, but it will be several miles. The Ste Beuve is a nice boutique hotel, but isn't really close to anything you want. The Hotel Relais St Germain is very nice and also has connecting rooms, although it might be over 500 euro a day for two (your budget I'm estimating). the 3* Hotel de Fleurie is a very central location in St Germain and is well within your budget http://www.hoteldefleurieparis.com/ There are just so many hotels you could consider.

As Christina stated, you will not (I'll pre-judge your stamina ) be able to walk everywhere, so the metro/buses will be key. Buying a few carnets of tickets will tide you over. I found nearer the ned of day a Metro back was a nice convenience after walking everywhere.

As a central area, I'd look around Ile de la Cite/ Ile St Louis, near the Seine. Access to Metro lines, RER to airport, walks south to Left Bank locations, east to Marais,etc..

An appartment may be the best and most convenient choice. Many, many threads here on recommended places. If hotels do strike your fancy, there are two jumbo threads called Left Bank Hotels and Right Bank Hotels that were created to try and capture lot of information in one place.

One hotel I stayed at was the Notre Dame hotel. Located across the street from the RER exit for the train to CDG. Our room was the loft, with views of Notre Dame (nice sunrises!) and was not noisy. Very central. Our room had a double and a lof with another bed.

Ile St Louis hotels are more expensive, but location and neighbourhood are prime. Lutece and Deux-Iles are ones I've stayed at.

Most VRBO rentals are for a week minimum. You might check out the apts connected with the hotel Muguet in the 7th. The Falilia hotel on rue des Ecoles is a very convenient location with good transportation options. They have a quad with breakfast and Wifi for 195 Euro

I'm losing it! It is not the Muquet that has apartments rather the Relais Bosquet!

Rather 2 rooms in a hotel, you might be interested in the snmall B&B a friend stayed in and she said it was delightful. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable leaving an 11 and 14 year old in a non-adjoining room.

Try this little apartment. We are staying here in August, works out cheaper than Hotel, boulangerie across the street, in heart of Little Tokyo so about 10 mins to Louvre on foot, very good location, with roof top area for a glass of wine and a good view. People who own it have been very helpful, we hope it is nice, though all we plan to to is sleep there!

Based on all the information above, as well as availability, I've narrowed our choice down to 2 hotels. Any advice as to which would be a better choice? Hotel Jardin Odeon or Hotel Le Sainte Beuve.
Hotel Jardin Odeon looks closer to many of the sites, but Hotel Le Sainte Beuve looks like it's in a nice area close to the gardens. We are fine with using the metro to get around, but are hoping to walk most places, as we remember the food in Paris as being fantastic. Both rate well on TripAdvisor. Thanks.

I think either would be great. I have friends who are very picky that always stay at the Ste. Beuve but the Hotel Jardin Odeon is really well located-the truth is they aren't really very far apart-being near the Odeon metro stop is nice since it is a convenient line-both are close to the Jardins De Luxembourg which is nice with kids. The Odeon location is in a really popular area for college kids-so lots of cheap eats around that area but probably just a shade more touristy than the other location which is a bit more residential with lots of schools right around there. But the Odeon location is still in a really nice part of the Latin Quarter-not the hyper touristy part on the other side of Blvd. St. Germain.

So I would just chose based on the hotel features that appeal to you since I really think you will love either location. I will be excited to hear where you end up and how you like it after your trip

Thank you. I booked at Hotel Jardin Odeon. It seems to be a little closer to the main sites we'll be visiting, and the cost was less than Ste. Beuve (last leg of a 2 week vacation that is turning out to be quite expensive ).

I would probably agree with that. Go with which hotel appeals to you most. I haven't stayed in either so couldn't compare the hotel features and rooms. The Jardin de l'Odeon is just as close to the park as Ste Beuve, it's just the other end of it (where most people are, actually, including the pond and sometimes music in the summer, etc.). There are plenty of places to eat next to either, as well as cinemas or whatever.

If you really intend to walk most places, that would point to the Jardin de l'Odeon, of course.

Yeah I agree with Christina and the hotel looks great on the site. And I am all for saving money on the room-more to spend at the patisseries!
