Lodging and Fun in Barcelona?
We're taking a cruise out of Barcelona on May 23, but we'll arrive in the city on May 20th.
Can anyone recommend nice, budget-friendly accommodations and activities that we can enjoy? We're a 30-something couple; we love small B&Bs and inns- we don't need a lot of amenities or space; just something clean, quiet and comfy. We LOVE good food. You all gave us some GREAT tips for Italy awhile back. I hope you can come through for us again!!

Stayed at the Hotel Continental Barcelona for pre cruise June 2012. Check them out thru Trip Advisor. We were a group of about 20 from cruise.critic.com and all enjoyed the hotel and facilities. Reasonable rates--got room with a balcony right on the Ramblas. Loved it!

Hotel Banys Orientals is great value and in the medieval El Born district, one of the best locations for both sights, fabulous food, cafés, bars and fun:

About El Born: http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...s/el-born.html
Plenty of excellent tapas bars and restaurants in the area. Some of my favourites will be traditional and low-key Xampanyet, great Basque pintxos as Euskal Etxea and gourmet tapas at Cal Pep, expensive and delicious, wait in line 15 min before opening to get a place at the bar. I recommend the monkfish, the divine tortilla with alioli, the traditional catalan sausage Butifarra and the fresh seafood in general. Don't settle for a fixed menu as it often includes a couple of not that interesting dishes.
