Location suggestion needed for Nuremburg train station

We will be in Germany a week before we meet our travel companion who will be flying into Munich and taking the first train available to Nuremburg.

Can you suggest a meeting place inside or outside the train station? Currently she does not have an international cell phone so she will not be able to call us. I'd like to give her a specific place to meet but I've never been to Nuremburg.

I thought we would park our car near the train station and visit the German National Museum and/or old town while waiting for her arrival.

Thank you for any suggestions, Deborah

McDonalds and Burger King are both in the station. What could be easier to remember than the golden arches as a meeting point
Plus you can sit down and have a coffee while you wait.
P.S. If YOU have a cell phone, she can call you from any pay phone in the station if anything goes wrong.

cowboy, for someone walking around an unfamiliar train station while jetlagged those "golden arches" might be just the beacon we'll use Thanks, Deborah

LOL.. Come on, the McD in the central station also has a McCafé. The coffee there is not bad.

I've recovered.

The Nurnberg Hbf has a MASSIVE main entrance portal. Google it - take a look at the image and you have your meeting spot.

Alternately, you can meet under the main Arrivals/Departure board, not too far inside and directly ahead of the MASSIVE entrance portal.

Thank you for the suggestions. Does McDonalds in Germany have free wifi like in France? Because of that wifi I may have visited more McDonalds in France than I have in the US

Aramis thanks for the description of the front entrance. I will use Google to get a visual.

Thanks again, Deborah

DeborahAnn,

The Nürnberg train station is very large and can be very crowded and hectic. If there is a delay, I fear that the massive entrance portal might not actually be a very pleasant place to wait.

I like the idea of meeting her at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, which is a pretty 5 minute walk from the Hbf.

Even closer would be the Neues Museum Nürnberg, more or less across the street from the Hbf. If you have any interest in contemporary art or design, this could be a place where you could browse while you wait. They also have a pleasant looking cafe. www.nmn.de

Another, even closer option, would be the Handwerker Hof, which opens in March. It is literally across the street from the train station and may be of interest due to its location along the medieval city wall. It is basically an exhibit of traditional crafts and gastronomy. It might be a pleasant and convenient place to stroll and maybe get a beer or a bit to eat while you wait. http://www.nuernberg.de/internet/por.../ctz_1804.html

From any of these locations, it would not be hard to pop back over to the train station to check on your friend's train for possible delays, etc. She could also check her luggage in a locker for a period and simply stroll across the street to meet you sans baggage.

Just a couple of options if you have second thoughts about hanging out at the busy train station.
