Location and amenities in Edinburgh, Scotland
Hello,
My previous thread was bombarding people with questions about planning, but now I am interested to know what the good areas of Edinburgh are (and if there are any unsafe ones). Also, is Canonmills a good place to stay for the week, or is it a bit far of a walk to the central sights?
Lastly, does anyone have any recommendations of the best shopping areas and pubs/bars that are considered "trendy"? Is Grassmarket one of them?
Thanks again

Cannonmills is a fairly large area -- the exact street/and/or address would help. Part of it is not far from Queen Street and in a pretty central part of the new town. But parts are farther NE than I'd personally want to stay.
You'll be safe anywhere.
There are good pubs and restaurants all over the city. Grassmarket has a good concentration.

Cannonmills /Eyre Place is a nice area on the northern edge of the Old Town ,though it is a stiff up hill walk to Princes street(I know I did in last Saturday) but as janisj says there are buses you can use.
I would avoid the Grassmarket at night but during the day it is fine and on saturdays there is a small market held there, there is also a farmers market on Saturday in castle terrace a few minutes walk from the Grass market.
As Alanrow says try George street, loads of upmarket bars and clubs there
