We're going to Venice in March and have read rave reviews on Tripadvisor about Locanda Orseolo. We've never been to Venice before and are wonder if anyone knows the location in proximity to the sites. Also, if anyone has stayed, any tips would be appreciated.

My husband and I stayed there just last month and it was fabulous. Very near St. Mark's - in fact, every time we were lost (which can happen often to a first-timer in this city of alleys), we just looked for one of the many signs pointing to St. Mark's, journeyed back to the square, and then walked a bit farther to our hotel. We stayed at Locanda Orseolo last month and the location is very good. It's very near St.Mark's square. We walked to most of the major attractions and there is a vaporetto stop close to the Locanda for side trips .We enjoyed our stay at the Locanda and the hosts are very pleasant. However, there is a difference in the double standard room and the double superior. Because of availability we stayed in each room type. The double superior was wonderful. The standard was nice but quite a bit smaller and the bathroom was very small. For example, coming out of the shower it was hard not to hit the sink. We were on the third floor and there were quite a few steps. It didn't bother us but a couple of trips up and down one day made me wish I was on the first floor. Enjoy your trip!

We stayed here last May. The family that runs the hotel was very friendly, recommended excellent restaurants, etc. The hotel is very near to San Marco square, and is pretty much in that popular "between Rialto Bridge and San Marco" general area.

I don't have my pictures posted anywhere on the web, but if you are interested in seeing three views of the hotel, let me know and I can e-mail them. I have a shot of our room, the view looking out from our room, and a shot taken outside looking up at our room.

On a different trip, I had stayed at a less expensive hotel in the same general area, and I would definitely say the Locanda Orseolo was a better experience, worth the price.

I cant say enough about the hotel!! Just loved it! The chocolate crepes in the morning are to die for,plus Barabara will make you egss,whatever you want. I guess we had the superior room,was great,I pulled the side table over to the window and watched the gondolas below.They turn around right at the end ,so they are always there.
The only restaurant we didnt like was the one right around the corner,just empty and one other tourist group,but the one on the square where the Vivaldi concert is was great. Say hi to Barbara for me!! Karen

We stayed at Locanda Orseola in May 2004 and loved it! Location is the best (about a block from San Marco Square)! My only advice is to follow the directions to the hotel very very carefully. It is tucked away in a small courtyard with only their signature bear on the door.

That was pretty much it for the room (but this might not have been a "superior" double, like the one you reserved). To the left side of the photo (but not in the picture) is where the bureau/mirror/tv was). Where I was standing to take the picture was a little foyer area, which also lead to the bathroom.

The room felt bigger than it appears in the photo. I was very happy with it, as was my husband who is 6'4" (he thought it was roomy enough).

Thanks AceKing, I was going to offer the same thing to them, I found great pictures on tripadvisor.com and Locanda's website locandaorseolo.com.

I reasearched accommodations extensively. We have booked there for our last week Jan/first week Feb. trip and cannot wait. The reviews are unbelievable, and I have now personally dealt with the the hosts both by phone and email, and I am very impressed thus far, they are gracious and extremely polite. (It is family run.)

We too, have a double superior canal view booked.

The only caveat, they are small and book up fast, so I would contact as soon as you have your dates.

I wonder if Candert ever finished his trip report, I will have to look for it now.

I never did finish my report, but I think got to the part about Locanda Orseolo. In short, I'm a big fan. The staff are what makes the place. A few years ago I was having dinner with friends at a restaurant on the Isle of Capri (not related, but stick with me). We were enjoying a multi-course meal. Someone at our table started to ask where our waiter was. Our waiter popped out of no where and replied to our friend "I am here! Here for you!"

Still a favorite line...

The point being that the staff of Locanda Orseolo go out of their way to greet you, assist you and to make you feel welcome. They are there for you!

We are staying there in three weeks and can not wait! Just wanted to also second the efficiency and friendliness of the staff even before our arrival. Bruno has helped us tremendously in acquiring overnight train accomodations that were on sale yet unavailable through Trenitalia. He went to the train station and purchased them for us! How many hotels do you know that would do that? (Rhetorical question, please trollers, don't answer)

I am going to post a trip report when I get back and will let you know how it was.

How lovely, please do go back to your original trip report and continue if you have the time and desire, I know everyone would enjoy it. After I read your post in this thread I went and found your “Four pastas thread…” I was very much enjoying it.

We will be staying in a Superior Double canal view room next Feb. (1/26 - 1/31 Florence, 1/31 - 2/4 Venice)

Would be interested to here ANYTHING more about Locanda & Venice. (Like I wonder what floor the Superior Dbl Canal view is on, etc.)

I can't tell you how many trip reports I have read. I really was enjoying yours!

p.s. I loved, "I am here. Here for you." I'm going to use that one.
