I will be landing in Llubljana late at night, plan to sleep as nearby as possible, pick up a rented car from the airport next morning and leave for the countryside. Please recommend close accommodation in the budget to moderate bracket.

We flew into Llubljana last year with a similar plan. We were very surprised how unorganized it is there. there was no tourist office, but a bank of phone lines connecting to various hotels. It may have changed since last year. We wound up picking up our rentasl a day early and not staying there because of the confusing set up. Either read a good guidebook or follow up on a recommendation.

There really isn't any. There are a few gostilnas (country restaurants) with rooms to rent on the way to Ljubljana. You may just want to take a taxi into Ljubljana, and have a car delivered to your hotel or pick it up downtown.
Late at night, it will be about a 20 minute ride into the city.
