Lisbon Portugal help

We were hoping to stay at the highly recommended Avenida Palace hotel for 4 nights after a cruise but no luck.

Yes, we are late to the game for Sept. but we decided sort of last minute.

Which hotel would be your 2nd & 3rd choices after the Avenida, which looked perfect. Budget up to $400 per night.

Before you book elsewhere, have you contacted the hotel directly, email or phone, rather than through a 3rd party site or even their own website? I ask because on occasion I've booked other than my first choice, only to discover that if I'd emailed when it appeared on their site that they were full up they could have accommodated me. You may be told again that they're full but it's worth a try if it's your heart's desire.

Our Chiado apartment had a view of the Hotel do Chiado, so I can second the location; short walk to many nice restaurants, very lively neighborhood.

Been looking at hotels for 2 hours. As we have never been there this is a challenge.
Also many are sold out for Sept 18 to 22 for 4 nights

Here's what we've come up with-----any comments would sure be of help

Hotel Santa Justa Lisboa
Hotel Lis-Baxia
International Design Hotel

It looks like the hotel I mentioned is available and more or less in your price range - not interested in it?

International Design Hotel is fantastic. Very cool, modern and our room was a good size and had a balcony overlooking the main boulevards. It's central to just about anything you'd want. The only drawback is that because of its central location, it can get a little noisy. But I would stay there again without hesitation.

Bostonblondie...we really needed a good heads up as we were getting nervous and just booked the IDS hotel.
I think you saved our marriage. After looking at so many hotels and watching them disappear before our eyes we were not doing well.

Finally getting down to an area (which we really know nothing about) we pulled the trigger.
Elizabeth....the Chiado was going to be next from your recommendation.

This is why Fodors Forums is the most important site out there...quick,easy suggestions.

Last Sept went through the same thing and a Fodorite gave us the best place to stay in Vienna.

FODORITES RULE!

Denise....always love your choices but no availability. Also thought we'd like to be in the middle of the city. That said your hotel was beautiful and more our style so we may have switched.

Can you believe we're giving up Paris this Sept? The Windsurf sailboat cruise from Dublin to Lisbon just seemed to have our name on it. We've sailed with them before and this itinerary was way outside our wheelhouse.

Now to hotels in Dublin....anyone,anyone!

Bostonblondie226..........thanks so much for the hotel IDHotel suggestion.

We stayed there for4 nights with great success.

Very modern, comfortable rooms. Ours had a beautiful view of Rossio Square.
Breakfast had everything we wanted, Really no lobby, but the front desk was efficient in anything you might need.

Location on Rossio Square was perfect to walk to many sites & areas. More restaurants around hotel than you could ever try.

Tpayt,
What did you pay for International Design Hotel? We have hotel reservations somewhere else, but I might consider staying at a different hotel if it's the right price.
Thanks!

We paid 313 Euros a night including breakfast. It came to $364 a night US dollar.

A bit high but well worth it for the location.

Thank you! It sounds nice but it is out of our price range.

I posted on your other thread. Would love to read a trip report about the Lisbon portion of your trip.
