limoncello tasting or tour on Amalfi Coast?
my husband loves limoncello! he brought a bunch back from our last trip to Italy. We are going to the Amalfi Coast this September and we'd love to tour a limoncello "factory" or somewhere where we could learn more about limoncello from the experts that make it. kind of like a vineyard tour etc.... I know there are many places around naples, sorrento and the amalfi coast that give out free samples, etc but I am looking for a little something more.... thanks!

In sorrento we went to the lemon grove garden not far from the train station. we had tastings of limoncello, orangecello, fennelcello and after that not sure what other cellos! At Almalfi we visited a limoncello shop that had tours of its factory but we did not have time for this, I am trying to find the card I have for this.
Your husband has good taste! Make sure you try limoncello babas if you havent already. Our favourite Italian Restaurant in Sydney used to import them.

As much as I love limoncello, I would never pass up a tour of the Amalfi Coast.
If you haven't done that, it is breathtaking.
You can always buy bottles of limoncello along the way. I have a relative who makes his own limoncello.
Maybe, you can post on the lounge to discover limoncello recipes. I think my uncle uses vodka and a syrup made of lemon rinds and lots of sugar.

FlyingMaltese-
I didn't mean a limoncello tasting OR a tour of the Amalfi coast.... I meant a limoncello tour/tasting. I will be based in Positano on the Amalfi Coast for 7 nights, plus an assistional 2 nights in Capri and plan to visit all the highlights as well as hike. so I was interested in touring a limoncello "factory" as part of my activites..... sorry for the confusion. I of course can't wait to tour the Amalfi Coast!

wow this is the reply I got from Unique Cosiera about their limoncello tour/tasting below....
I definitely can not afford 200 euros though as tempting as it sounds. If I don't find anything else I am more than happy to just visit the lemon groves in Sorrento and the many shops for free! if anyone comes across anything else though please let me know! thanks
"You can visit a local buffalo cheese factory in Cava de’ Tirreni (an hour from Positano, having the chance to enjoy the famous Amalfi Drive..). You will have a guided tour in English, which will enable you to understand how Buffalo Mozzarella cheese is made. Afterwards, You will be visiting one of the most important limoncello factories on the Amalfi Coast; the limoncello tasting and making lasts about 30 minutes, you will taste the different types of liqueurs such as fennel, melon, strawberry, etc You will also learn how to make your own limoncello and how is produced.
If you are more interested in a wine tour with the limoncello, you will be taken to one of the most important wine producers on the Amalfi Coast. The tour will include a visit to the vineyards and wine cellar, as well as tasting the best local wines.
The entrance fees for both tours are free, unlike some factories. Most clients show their appreciation by purchasing a little item at both places. The local factory owners are most appreciative of this!
The cost of both tours (5 hours, number of hours required) travelling in a chauffeured air conditioned Mercedes Sedan (please see the image) with an English speaking driver is 200 Euros (not per person)."

I would guess that you can visit both mozzarella farms and a limoncello maker on your own..
Here is the site for the local cooperative of lemon product producers; visits are by appointment. they could point you towards a limoncello maker.
http://www.solagri.it/cooperativa_solagri.php
For mozzarella di bufala:

You would need to hire a car for the mozzarella farm visit near Paestum.

Liza I am glad to help..please let us know what happens...
However, I am not sure that the idea of visiting the groves like you would visit an actual vineyard will work..I think many of these limoncello makers may buy their lemons from the cooperative of growers that I linked above..Solagri...
