les mas des carassins or maison trevier

My wife and I are looking for a base from May 8 to the 14th. We have a car and we've narrowed down our choices to these 2 properties.

Please share your thoughts on which would make a choice based on location, proximity to other places, and over all experience.

Thanks again for all your coming opinions.

Where are these places located in France and what do you want your 'experience' to be like? What are your interests and what 'other places' are you thinking of visiting?

If you provide more details we can see if they match your expectations...

We stayed in Mas des Carassins/St. Remy in 2006 and enjoyed our stay. We thought our mini suite (this was the only room available) was fine, nicely furnished with modern bath and somewhat noisy aircond, but we are not sissues. It was also reasonably priced, breakfast was adequate and dinners (additional cost) were good. The owner and host spoke perfect English - no issues whatsoever. I would rate it as a solid three-star property and would recommend it if one wanted to base in St. Remy and had an x-Euro to spend.

I have no knowledge or experience with Maison Trevier but anything in Carpentras would not be my choice of a place to stay. We stayed in Bedoin for two weeks this past summer and drove through Carpentras every day. We stopped in Carpentras a few times to use a bankomat and, honestly, we did not feel comfortable. I really do not want to say much more then this but the city center did not strike us as a place we would enjoy strolling in the evenings.

Hope this helps you.

I would choose St Remy over Carpentras. Visiting Provence from either location is fairly similar but St Remy is a more picturesque spot than Carpentras and has more appeal for me as far as wandering in the evening.

I am not familiar with the property in Carpentras but Mas des Carassins has a very nice restaurant and is within walking distance of many more.

I would also choose St-Remy over Carpentras. We stayed at Le Mas and thought it was delightful: very nice room, pleasant proprietor who made dinner reservations in town for us nearly every night. There is no one on the property to look after your needs after 8 p.m. and entry to the gates after that time is by pass number only, but it was not a problem at all.

Literally a few minutes' drive will take you to Glanum and to other Roman ruins across the road from Glanum.

You are not far from Arles and points in between, including the 9th C abbey and the ancient aqueduct, which is a bit off the beaten path but one of the highlights of our trip.

Have you inquired of Maison Trevier regarding parking? A car would be essential at either location for your trip--its not an issue at Mas de Carassins but MT is in the city center of Carpentras--a very working class city. MT's cooking classes and food expertise looks intriguing however and those features are not part of Le Mas.

We also stayed at Le Mas on our first visit to Provence many years ago and were pleased. Its nice to be "out" of town but literally within walking distance. Lots to see and do nearby.
