Left Luggage LHR - Term 1 or 4?
I will be flying into terminal 1 and out of terminal 4 next week -- the question is at which terminal to leave an excess bag: Terminal 1 or 4?
Are the left luggage facilities generally the same in both terminals? (I see there is a slight difference in fees but only 50p per day so no big deal)
All things being equal, I am guessing I will do Term 1 since it will be easier to reach by tube for the dropping it off.
Any comments/suggestions?

So, you are in London a few days and want to leave a bag at the airport and then pick it up when you leave? The only thing I would think is, terminal 4 is a long way from terminal one, so wouldn't it be easier to store it at the terminal you are leaving from, if they have the facilities? When I went through Heathrow last Dec. on my way to Copenhagen, we landed at terminal 4 and left from terminal 2. The minimum time from one terminal to the other was 75 minutes, so not sure you'd want to have to go to terminal 4 to get your luggage and then get to terminal one for your flight.

You will need to factor in time to get to Terminal 4 if you are taking the tube. There is no tube to Terminal 4 right now. You will need to get off at Hatton Cross and get a special bus. Maybe you should park your bags at Terminal 1 and get a cab to Terminal 4 when you leave.

By storing it at T4 it's one less thing to worry about when you return to Heathrow - otherwise you are going to have to go to T1, (invariably) queue, collect your bag, then go to T4 - when catching a plane the last thing I want to do is have to go to several different places
As for the suggestion to take a taxi between T1 & T4 - why - when the HEX is free between Heathrow Terminals

It will be more of a hassle at arrival but much less hassle at departure if you leave it at T-4. T-4 is quite remote from the other terminals and I personally wouldn't want to go to T-1, get my bags, and then travel to T-4 before checking in/security. Just too much and too time consuming before flying out.

Agree w/previous posters. Fly into T1, take a Heathrow Experss to T4, leave your luggage there, enjoy London, come back to T4 via Heathrow Express, get your luggage and check-in.
You might just want to check the hours they're open and if tehre are maximum days you can leave the luggage. Just to be safe...

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I should've made it clearer.
I am in central London now. Thursday, I take a train to Scotland.
Next week I fly from Aberdeen to LHR terminal 1 and out to Amsterdam via LHR terminal 4. (so I will need to be in both terminals that day).
I thought it would be easier to leave a bag at LHR tomorrow that I don't need in Scotland and pick it back up on my way thru LHR.
Since the Tube doesn't go to terminal 4, I was thinking that terminal 1 would be easier for me.
Now I am re-thinking the whole idea. I don't know if BA would allow me to check one bag ABZ-LHR-AMS and a new one just LHR-AMS.
It may be easier to just schlep the second bag!

BA will certainly let you check the first bag ABZ-LHR-AMS. I've certainly succeeded in getting other airlines, under the circumstances you describe, to add another bag at the intermediate airport (as long as the second bag didn't take me over the limit). Indeed, they've sometimes insisted on it.
It's the kind of thing which, if you ask the airline beforehand, will provoke some nanny (especially at BA) to lecture you and imply it can't be done. But if you just turn up with a bag for the second leg, it'll almost certainly be easier for BA to accept it as checked.
And I'd leave the bag at T4 to collect on the last leg.

For T4, you get off at Hatton Cross (lots of announcements), walk a few yards, get on bus, go to terminal. It adds a few minutes to the total travel time. It isn't difficult

Unless you are schlepping huge bags (why two suitcases is a whole 'nother matter) it may be more trouble than its worth to go out to LHR to drop the bag, go back into London, take the train and so on . . . . .
I'd just take the bags w/ me on the train.
