We usually end our trips to UK in London, during the 2 or 3 weeks we are in country I do it by hand and hope that they have heated towel bars!! A luxery I'd love to have at home. I carry a foldable Sportsac duffel and by the time we get to London for the last week it's usually full. I don't know about Picadeilly but where we stay in South Ken, there are 2 laundromats, I just leave it there , for about 5 pounds, they launder and fold it and pack it back in the duffel. The shirts and pants I ask to have put on hangers when they come out of the dryer. Never any problem. This is all my husbands stuff, we ladies don't have a problem , our undies dry with no problem overnight.
Funny story!!! I once saw nylon briefs for men.. I thought it was a great idea... after 2 days my husband was cursing me all over the place.. my you guys are SO sensitive!!!

Jody, I'm starting to think you and I are the same person! Can't help with Paris but, since I now travel with either a small rolling carry on or a leather duffle (after BA lost my luggage for 6 days, I no longer trust checking on trans-atlantic flights) and, mid-week, take my laundry to a little laundramat next to Sainsbury's on Cromwell Road in Kensington (I always want to remember the name and never can--Bubbles/Suds--something like that. It's almost directly across from the Comfort Inn Ken and only about a block from the Gloucester Road Tube stop. Drop it in the morning around 9:00 and pick it up after 1:00 pm. Never more than 8 lbs and worth every penny. I'm sure these laundramats are all over London, but I can't recall seeing anything like that in Piccadilly. People are in that area for heavy shopping, rather than residences. I also take a fold-up duffle (small, navy American Tourister nylon job that you can pick up in any luggage store--or Walmarts--for about $9). Great for transporting dirty clothes to the laundramat and, later the laundry you take home (which I check on return). I'll be interested to hear about laundramats in Paris AND Rome.
Have a great trip!

Laundromats (laveries) are abundant in some parts of Paris and more scarce in others...where are you staying?
We've used laundromats in the 7th on several occasions. Many are completely self operated...they usually take the last load at 8 pm (and since they are automated, that means 8 pm SHARP...no fudging on time permitted!). Washing and drying a normal size load usually costs us about $4-5. If your time matters more than your money, some laundromats have drop off services. Prices are usually set by the kilo and on the times that we've used such services, a normal load cost us $8-10. Not a huge difference, really.
BTilke

hi
can't help w/london but in paris yes lavaries are self serve just like here in us. as i remember it i put my laundry in the washer, put the money in a token dispenser on the wall , then put money in machine. you need to pick water temp etc. i used shampoo to wash- one less thing to carry. drying -same thing with the token. jeans take a long time and make drying expensive!
the cheaper lavaries were in the student areas of paris. hope this helps you.
