Latin Qtr.: Hotel Moderne St. Germain or Hotel du Lys

Spending 3 nights in Paris in October with my husband. Love the sound (and price) of both Hotel dy Lys and Hotel Moderne St. Germain.

We are looking for proximity to the sites, basic, clean, an en suite preferably with a tub. A little charm and romance would be great too.

Which one would you choose?
Also,

1. Can't seem to find good online pics of Hotel du lys. (although reports are excellent) Any web site recommendations?

2. What website would you use to make your on-line reservation?

Luv2ski -

I haven't stayed at the Hotel dy Lys, so can't comment on that.

I did spend several nights at the Moderne St. Germain in 2002. I wouldn't stay there again.

The location is excellent - we had a lot of fun in the neighborhood and it had good Metro access. But the room was pretty disappointing. Search back on the Europe forum and you'll see I don't expect much - I love a bargain and have no problem with good one- or two-star hotels.

The Moderne's rooms were badly in need of updating and a good cleaning, in my opinion. No "charm" at all. I think you can do better for the price.

Hope someone else pops in with some advice, too.

Have a great trip!

I just responded to your other post on this subject.

Perhaps the reason you couldn't find website was b/c on earlier post, you spelled it wrong: it is Hotel du Lys.

Try www.tripadvisor.com for hotels and comments. I have found the site very useful, and the descriptions are good.

I haven't stayed at either hotel. However, I suggest using the hotel's own website to reserve your room. Keep in mind there is no elevator at the Hotel du Lys.
