Late night wine purchase in Paris

Cafes are generally going to be open at that time of night, although in some areas where they don't have that much business, some may be closed by then. Big ones are usually open, though. I know of no regular store that would be open at that time of night. Do you want to buy a bottle of wine to drink in a cafe, or at a wine store? If the former, probably, but I doubt the latter.

Thanks, Christina! Actually, I'd prefer to buy a bottle to drink in our room. Maybe I'd better plan to pack something to drink that first night. I'd just like to be able to have a drink (I know I'm going to be wound up after a day of traveling), relax and get a good night's sleep so we'll be ready to get out and enjoy Paris the next morning!

You don't indicate where you are staying in Paris nor what month you'll be there but I believe the Latin Quarter might still be awake at that hour, especially in the warmer months.

There's a little alimentaire on the avenue de Tourville just off the place Ecole Militaire that stays open pretty late some nights. You might find it open late enough for you.

Also, where are you staying? Both hotels that I frequent in the 7th have small bars and you can request a bottle of wine for the room from them. Your hotel might be able to provide the wine for you.

Otherwise, all the cafés on the Place Ecole Militaire will be open late - you can always pop over to one and order a glass or two.

Sorry, mkdiebold. Actually I did say the 7th although I realize that's not very specific! We're staying on Avenue de Tourville. And I forgot to say we'll be there in two weeks. Thanks for the info, though!

We must have been writing at the same time, St. Cirq. Thank you! We're staying at the Hotel de Turenne at 20 Avenue de Tourville. Is that close to the alimentaire you mentioned?

From your response, it sounds like we should pretty easily be able to find somewhere to have a glass or two of wine. And I'll check the hotel's web site to see if they mention a bar.

Don't know whether that means they'll still be open when we arrive. But they do have a bar! Thanks again, St. Cirq.

Have you thought about picking up a bottle of wine from the duty-free shop at the Dublin airport before you depart? If not, see if there's a supermarket (like Champion or Monoprix) near your hotel. They should be open late and have a decent selection.

Major cafés are generally open until 1 a.m.
The small Arab and Asian run grocery stores are also open late. (In my neighborhood, some of them are open until about 4 a.m. but probably not in the 7th.)
Most Monoprix stores in Paris close at 10 p.m. Some are open until 10:30 p.m. and some close at 9:45 p.m. Monoprix Champs Elysées is open until midnight.

Coming from Dublin, I would bring a small bottle of Bushmills with me, and ask the hotel for a couple of ice cubes.

Come to think of it, I would bring a large bottle of Bushmills.

Now this is what I would do, phone the hotel and ask them to put a bottle of wine in my room and charge it to my account. Am I missing something here?

That alimentaire is just 2-3 doors away from Turenne, going toward Ecole Militaire. I don't know how late he stays open, though. I wouldn't count on the 'bar' in Turenne being available for anything - I don't think it's manned... the desk might be willing to offer something, but then again, they might not. I'd bring something with or go out to the corner brasserie/bar, or nearby area.

I would simply pack a bottle of wine in my suitcase w/ corkscrew then you could just go directly to your hotel and not have to worry about it. Heck I'd throw in some nuts or crackers too!

I think I have seen wine for sale at some of teh gift shops at CDG, but I don't know if they would be open at that hour.

I agree with Vannah- call or email the hotel and arrange to have a bottle of wine waitng for you in your room. They will certainly provide glasses, corkscrew and more than likely some sort of snack to go with it. Works for me!

It all depends on the price. If you were able to obtain all of your arrival needs at a supermarket, the grand total would probably be less than 10€. But as a hotel service.... how much are you willing to pay?

Good point, kerouac! I have to say that thought crossed my mind too. Kind of silly to search for a reasonable hotel and then blow the difference on a bottle of wine!
