When we arrived late several years ago I think a cab for two including luggage from the airport to the spanish steps area was around 94,000lire. Which was about $45 I guess. Don't know if the trains are running.
If not, consider the extra cost to be the price of an "E" ticket at an amusement park...a real thrill ride!

Betty: We will be arriving late in Rome in May and plan to use either Limoservice or Airport Shuttle. Both charge about 20-30% more than usual rates for pickups after 8:00 pm.

[email protected]
airportshuttle @airportshuttle.it

j

The last two Fiumicino Express trains leave FCO at 23:07 and 23:37. You will certainly miss the first. If you miss the second as well, take a shuttle or a taxi. There is a very inexpensive night bus service from FCO to Tiburtina Rail Station (useful if taking a night train from Tiburtina to destinations north or south of Rome), but I would not recommend this if you plan to check in at a hotel in town.

For the benefit of travelers seeking to take a late night train out of Tiburtina Rail Station, the bus service from FCO to Tiburtina leaves at 1:15 a.m., and there are also a couple of later buses until 5:00 a.m. (basically timed to arriving flights), when the trains begin running again. The bus fare is 5.16 Euros (source: FCO Airport web site: www.adr.it)
