we hear that a bus to pile gate meets croatia air flights, but were not sure. if no bus, what is cost of taxi to old town? actually we need to go to ploce gate and the bus may go only to pile gate..........

I took it from my hotel that was just up the road from the southern gate (don't remember what it was called).
The irony was my flight to Zagreb was only 40 euros.
callililli just posted a nice trip report about Dubrovnik. She took the bus. You may want to look for her report.

We just returned and we took a taxi 200 kunas or about 33 U.S. Saw the air croatia bus at the pile gate - by air croatia office one day = we stayed above the ploce gate. That bus is supposedly very little. You might want to take a taxi to the bus though.

Hi - we found the bus right outside the door at the airport when landing at Dubrovnik. I'm not sure if it was specifically the bus that meets Croatian Air flights (we came in on BA) but it was a full-size bus.. cost was 35kuna (about $6)pp. It took us to the Pile Gate. I'm not sure if it will take you to the Ploce Gate (you may be able to ask your hotel for that info) - but we did see people walking down the Stradun with their luggage to the Ploce Gate. Its not a very far walk -- about 200meters.. possibly more (i'm bad with distance).. but a nice walk anyway. Having luggage may make a difference.. as the street is cobblestone and might be difficult with rolling bags. Anyway, like i said, we saw people doing it. I talked to a few people who paid for a taxi and felt gouged. Good reason to pack light. hehe
good travels to you!

We (me, husband, 2 year-old) took the bus from DUB airport and were very happy. More affordable than a taxi, great views. and the bus (and taxis) are right there once you exit the airport, s easy to find. And as someone mentioned, the walk from Pile gate to Ploce Gate is quite short, even with luggage, strollers, etc. We actually stayed in an apt. near the Ploce gate. The directions recommended entering via the Buza Gate which is the north part of Old Town. But we took the bus to the Pile Gate (as opposed to a taxi to the Buza Gate) and were glad we did. There are LOTS of STAIRS in Old Town, but we found a street near the Ploce gate that had a ramp up to the next street, which is where out apt was located. And there is a ramp at the Pile Gate.
