Lake Como accomodations

Has anyone heard of the Hotel San Giorgio in Lenno, Lake Como? Any other suggestion for a 3 star hotel on the western shore of the lake? Thanks.

Hotel Bellavista in Menaggio.
Lenno is too far out.

Yeah, the Bellavista was not bad, a solid 3-star choice with excellent views ( as implied by the name). And I like the Mennagio location for a number of reasons.

But if I had to do it over again, I would have spent a few extra bucks and stayed at the 4-star Grand Hotel Mennagio. Nice looking place, very close by.

Then again, if you're going 4-star, there are a lot of good options in the area (especially Bellagio).

Agree w/ Bob about Lenno.

Thanks for the recommendation. But I am curious about one thing: Why is Lenno too far out when Tremezzo is about halfway between Menaggio and Lenno and rates as being more interesting than Menaggio in Fodor's Italy and The Green Guide for Italy? In other words, if my time is limited, I would want to see Tremezzo before Menaggio anyway.

I think Bob and I both thought "Lecco" when you said Lenno. Sorry.

Bellagio, Mennaggio & Varenna are main stops on the ferry line, and as such are more easily accessible. And by car/bus, Mennaggio is also on a major road that takes you directly to points west Lugano, etc.)

Lenno is kind of a lesser town, but that's not necessarily a show-stopper. The whole darn lake is gorgeous! Enjoy.

This may not be a 3***hotel, but we loved it so much last year, we are going back this June for a few nights. Check out: Villa Simplicitas, http://www.villasimplicitas.it/foto_ing.html. My best memory was having a wonderful dinner out on the porch, seeing the twinkling lights around both lakes!(the villa is up on the ridgetop, on the west rim of Lake Como) and then seeing the twinkling lights of fireflies (my husband's first). Ulla and her husband have created a serene, pastoral place to stay (and we're not into serene at the expense of comfortable). I don't think it is in Karen Brown's book, but we have stayed at lots of KB's recommendations, and it seems like it would fit perfectly in her book! Jane [email protected]
