Labor Day and Liberation Day in Italy, 2013--NEED ADVICE--

Hi, I am unfortunately not able to avoid being in Italy for two major holidays. I have a reservation to rent a car at the Pisa Airport on April 27, 2013 and drive to Monterosso al Mere to leave our big luggage in the car and take a backpack to our hotel up steep stairs where we are staying one night. This is a Saturday and Liberation Day holiday is that Thursday and Labor day is the following Wednesday. This would mean we are driving on a Saturday after a Thursday holiday, Liberation Day, from Pisa to Monterosso al Mere (1 1/2 hours), and back to Tuscany the next day (driving to agricultural tourismo reservation in the countryside).

Then I realized the two holidays! I read travel time on the train is the same time as the car and was going to change my car rental from the 27th to the 28th and store our big luggage at the airport overnight. However, I hear trains are also very busy the weekend after a holiday. Should I change the car rental reservation from the 27th to the 28th and just store our luggage at the airport overnight, then hop on a train to Monterosso al Mare and do the same the next day and rent the car at the Pisa Airport on the 28th and head to Tuscany? OR, should I just get the car and drive, only to park the car the entire time and drive back? I was only doing that for the luggage but realized we could store our luggage overnight at the Pisa Airport (I think we can overnight--I have to verify as sometimes it is only allowed for the day). The train seems better, but involves more time finding the place to store our luggage, taking the train from Pisa Airport to Pisa Centrale to catch train to Monterosso al Mere, etc. If driving is not going to be a problem, we should just drive. Will traffic be horrible in the Cinque Terre area, on our way to Monterosso al Mere from Pisa on a Saturday after labor day and on our way to Tuscany country from Monterosso al Mere? Should I avoid the car? The hotel said there is a guarded paid parking lot and they are very close to the parking lot so that is why I chose to rent the car, and to save time (more time in Cinque Terre Saturday and avoid busy trains, and likewise in Tuscany the next day).

I want to avoid a lot of traffic on the road, but make sure we will have no problem getting a train ride to Monterosso al Mare from Pisa, and back. I would make a train reservation online but thought I read there are no seat reservations for that part, and I read it can be very busy on the weekend after Liberation Day, in Italy. I need advice please! Thank you.
