La Maison de Les Tetes, Colmar (France)
Hello, has anyone stayed recently at La Maison de Les Tetes in Colmar, France or know about it? There is one recent review on Tripadvisor.com and it was favorable. But I would like to know more about this hotel and restaurant if it's possible. It seem really nice.
Thanks.
Thanks.

My husband and I stayed there a couple of years ago and we thought it was nice. Our room was pretty good size and it had a sitting area w/ a couch & table. I don't know the price & I forget if it was a 3* or 4*. I tend to pick 4* hotels/inns unless there aren't any in the place we want to stay. Also, I usually go for the middle priced room. I don't know if the lower cost room would have the suite set-up. The location was pretty good. It was a pleasant walk to the "center" of town - or at least what I think was the "center." The food in the dining room was very good. The place reminded me more of Germany or Austria than it did France. Same w/ the atmosphere of the hotel. I think at one time that area of France belonged to Germany. I would stay there again.

"I think at one time that area of France belonged to Germany"
A bit of history. Alsace (Elsass in German) evolved as a German-speaking region, which eventually formed part of the Holy Roman Empire under the Hapsburgs. Following the 30 Years' War in 1648, most of it was ceded to France, and Louis XIV completed the conquest.
After France was defeated by the German Empire in 1870, Alsace (and Lorraine) were annexed by Germany and remained part of the German Empire until 1918. In 1940, the Nazis re-annexed Alsace as an integral part of the Third Reich until it was liberated in 1945.

Thanks especially to ehc for the hotel comments. It is a 4* rated hotel and I would choose the moderate category room also.
Of course, I messed up the name. It should be La Maison des Tetes instead.

I haven't quite figured out how hotels are rated. I would classify most (not all) of the 4* hotels we have stayed in in Europe as 3*'s and the 3*'s as 2*'s. There have been a few that have gone the other way. In other words, THIS is a 3* - I think it should be 4*'s. Maybe the 4's get that rating b/c they serve dinner & not just breakfast.???????
