La Galeria St. Remy or La Magnaneraie Villanueve
I have found availabilty at both for mid September. Prices are much different. La Galerie at 68 euros, La Magnaneraie at 160 euros for a standard room. Any advice from people who've stayed in Provence much appreciated. Thanks!

I stayed at La Magnaneraie a couple of years ago in a superior room – very large, well decorated, overlooking the interior garden. Loved the hotel and the restaurant.
However, I don’t like Avignon very much and I would personally prefer to stay in St. Remy, which I think is a really honest, comfortable Provence town.
If you looking for a base for driving, I think St. Remy is a far better choice – getting in and out of Avignon is complicated and tedious.

Thank you so much for the input. Perhaps Avignon area is better to visit than use as a travel base. Does anyone have personal knowledge of La Galerie in St. Remy? I can't seem to find any traveler reviews....

Back in 2003 we stayed at a place for which there were no on-line reviews. It turned out to be perfect for us, and since then a number of people from this forum and others have also stayed there and liked it. We forget sometimes how many great places there are that never show up in the guide books or websites!
If what you have found out about La Galerie sounds like it is someplace that meets your needs -- and sometimes it is only just a feeling you get communicating with them -- go for it.

We also stayed La Magnaneraie and loved it, the garden setting, and their excellent restaurant. The staff were incredible. The problem was coming and going on day trips as you had to pass through Avignon. I would stay in St-Remy next time.

I've driven past La Galerie, but never been inside. It's less than a kilometre outside of town so it would be any easy walk. It also sounds like a bargain...especially for around here.
Have you checked out http://www.hotel-gounod.com in St. Rémy ? I like this funky small hotel and have had good feedback from people I've recommended it to.
Centrally located - has AC, in the event you'll need it in mid-September.

As I've stated on numerous other threads, we loved our stay at La Magnaneraie and found it easy to navigate our way to other towns in the area. It's very easy if you have a rental car. We'd go again in a heartbeat!

We ended up staying at Vallone de Valrugues in St. Remy. Got a great deal online of $192 USD per night including breakfast each day for a comfort room, although the prices on the hotel's website and posted in rooms was much, much higher. Beautiful place, very upscale. Wonderful gourmet dinner there, but pricey for the meal. Worth it though, I think.
