La Costa Montefollonico, Italy

I just read a reccomendation of this place a few messages down. Does anyone have any other opinions? How about the area? We really want to go into Montalcino and Montepulciano as we are wine enthusiasts... Is the inn an east drive to both those towns?

We stayed in Montefollonico in September, 2003 because, like you, we wanted to be centrally located in wine country. The place in which we stayed, La Chiusa (http://www.ristorantelachiusa.it/uk/uk-home.htm), was one of the great culinary experiences of our trip, and is only about 20 minutes away from Montepulciano. Pricy for both the room and the restaurant, but worth it. There are rooms in most categories with views of Montepulciano (even some of the standard rooms have them). Whether or not one stays there, it is definitely considering a trip to for lunch or dinner.

Did you meet the chef, Dania Masotti, during your visit to the restaurant, LaChiusa? My doctor says she is the best chef in Italy. A group of five women from Atlant are staying at a vila in Tuscany and taking day trips. Is Montefolloinco and Montepulciano the same town or close to each other? I don't see both on my map. Thanks.

We stayed at La Costa several years ago because we wanted to eat at La Chiusa but La Chiusa had no rooms available. (Yes, Dania made the rounds of the tables.) La Costa was a nice small family run hotel. We really don't like to drive on unfamiliar roads after a bottle of wine with dinner, so we make it a point to stay in places where there are good dining options within walking or cab distance. Think of where you want to eat each night and plan your lodging accordingly!
