Krakow Restaurant Recommendations

Well the flights have been booked and the B&B reserved (thanks Amy - I managed to get a room at Trecius).

Now, has anyone got any recommendations for restaurants in Krakow please? It will be my birthday whilst we're out there and I'd like to eat somewhere special.

Thank You!

I'm glad you got Trecius; I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! (I think it might be the cleanest hotel/guesthouse in the entire world.)

My slightly-splurge restaurant was Farina: www.farina.krakow.pl I loved the atmosphere, the food was very good, and it's just a block or so away from Trecius. There are fancier/more opulent places, for sure; I was looking at Cyrano de Bergerac, for one, which gets decent review on www.inyourpocket.com.

(And what a terrific way to spend your birthday...cheers!)

I recommend Pod Aniolami (Under the Angels): http://www.podaniolami.pl/

Ask for a table in the Cellar. You can make a reservation on line. Their web site has great pictures and the menu.
Wonderful restaurant!

The Pod Aniolami is an excellent choice...also you might want to experience the old pre-war elegance of Krakow at the famed old Wierzynek..just off the main square..diagonally opposite St. Mary's Church (the trumpeter's tower). It was Spielberg's favorite when he was filming Schindler's List in and around the city. We observed some of the "shooting" and were tipped on Wierzynek. That was in '93 and it was very inexpensive. I'm sure that has changed upwardly since then.

Hello dmjapril,

I am Krakowian and living here. Yes indeed, mentioned restaurants are good. Pod Aniolami is one of the best in town with polish food. Its good to check: www.cracow-life.com; www.inyourpocket.com - they have accurate opinions about places and they check these places before writing.

It depends on what cusine you are looking for. with polish food I recommend "Jarema" restaurant (Pl. Matejki) very good food and not expensive. Others are "Chlopskie Jadlo", "Cherubino" or "Wierzynek" (good food, expensive and crowded). Very good one is "Aqua e vino" (italian) and run by italians, so food is lovely. International is "cul-de-sac" restaurant (expensive, but very nice. I know also place where you can organize small parties (i.e birthday). Boutique hotel Pugetow and restaurant in the cellar (as almost everywhere in Krakow Really nice and cosy place.

Impoortant thing is: if you want to make a birthday party at weekend and go with you friends or family, remember to book a table in advance. From the end of March and beginning of April its already high season here and you can be disapointed walking around Old Town and finally end up in not nice place!!!

Feel free to contact me if you need more information. All the best, wonderful stay in Krakow and already happy birthday

Marcin

We absolutely lvoe Krakow--and have tried all the above restaurants thru the last couple of years--but I vote for Pod Andiolami for food--altho Wiezynek was more formal with great romantic atmosphere but overall under the angels is just that--angelic. We can hardly wait to go back this july. I dont know Trecius but the Copernicus hotel is certainly one of the most unusual historic hotels ever. Jan
