Kocula to Split--drive along the coast or car ferry?

Our itinerary so far is:
2 nites korcula --wld a car be helpful on korcula?
1 nite split --drive there or take care ferry?
1 nite mostar
4 nites dubrovnik.

Shld we take the ferry to split or drive up the coast? The fast catamaran leaves at 6am which is early. The car ferry takes over 6 hours. Has anyone tried the car ferry? Comfortable seating?
The other option is to drive up the coast to Split. Michelin says it takes 3 hrs to drive from korcula to split. is that accurate?

We plan to rent a car in split for the drive down. We cld just rent it at the dubrovnik airport and use it the whole time.

The car ferry from Korcula to Split is the one on the coastal service between Dubrovnik and Rijeka. The service runs twice weekly in summer only. The ship has bars, a restaurant, lounges and open decks.
There is also a car ferry from Vela Luka on Korcula island to Split. That runs daily and takes under three hours.
All Jadrolinija's schedules are on www.jadrolinija.hr.
Michelin's route from Korcula to Split seems to involve the ferry to Drvenik. This service ran three times a day last summer and the crossing time was two and a half hours, so their total journey time is quite wrong.

There a short (20 minute) car ferry from Korcula to Orebic, which runs more or less hourly in high season.

Your itinerary seems kind of confused. How are you getting to Korcula? You could fly into Split, spend a night, pick up a rental car and ferry to Korcula, spend time there, then ferry to Orebic, drive to Dubrovnik, then hit Mostar of the way back to Split.

Or vice versa. You don't really need a car in Dubrovnik unless you're planning a daytrip to the Bay of Kotor -- which is doable by tour bus. In fact, you could do the whole Croatia part of this trip without a car, using boats. But I don't know about public transportation into Mostar.

One warning: check the ferry schedules very carefully, especially if you're going in the non-high season. It's easy to make blithe plans, then find out the ferry only runs twice a week.

The warning about checking schedules carefully is important. Unfortunately it can be rather difficult to get future time schedule information as opposed to schedules currently in effect. If you do take the ferry to Orebic, you will be at the end of the Peljesac peninsula which is scenic and interesting. I described a day we spent there last fall in my trip report.

I agree with Mimar it seems logical to plan Split to Korcula to Dubrovnik or vice versa. Your list of places to visit and proposed timing is confusing.

It is not difficult to get ferry schedules for Croatia. Jadrolinija runs most of the ferry services and has schedules for the whole of 2011 (up to 31 December) on www.jadrolinija.hr in English.

Thank you so much for this info as I was able to determine the ferry will be running and when on the date we need in late May from Split to Korcula (to Vela Luka)
