KLM Northwest

The fares from Dulles - Rome on KLM Northwest are very reasonable. Has anyone ever flown them to Italy? How was it?

It will be Dulles - Amsterdam on Northwest and Amsterdam - Rome on KLM.
I have never flown Northwest, but know that they have a very *average* image. KLM is OK, it depends a lot on the crew if the service is excellent or so-so. (as on any airline these days)

If I were you, Geo, I'd go for it, fast.
I flew NW to Germany in the spring and it was entirely pleasant, although I feared it would be a horror. The food was actually good.
When I used to fly KLM to Europe from Canada in the late 80s, it was excellent, too. I'm sure NW/KLM will be average/fine as airlines go these days. If it gets you to Rome safely, then that's gotta be great, right?
Buon vaggio (or however it is spelled)!

When traveling on Northwest, pack only the shit that you were going to replace anyway. The last time that you will see your check-in luggage is at the ticket counter.

A few years ago I flew on Northwest every weekend from Calif to Madison Wis with a connect through MSP. I did this for 9 months every weekend and never had a problem with my luggage.
Regards,
Art
Flew Northwest Chicago-Rome in Apirl. Great fare, good flight but they use 767's whic I think is to small for oversea's flights. But who am I. In fact so does TWA to Paris.

We flew NWL from Minnneapolis to Amsterdam, and the return on KLM./... the service and food were better on KLM, but the price was right, and both flights were pretty good! Have a great time!

I'm based in MSP and have flown NWA for decades. OK airline. Older aircraft. Excellent customer service (never lost any of my luggage). And better food than most airlines. I'd go for it. Mike.

Mikey,

Not a big deal, but the only Boeing aircraft Northwest operates on any route is the 747. To Amsterdam it will be a DC-10 or 747, to Rome it is a DC-10.

We have used NW/KLM to Italy the past two years, flying from the west coast. The first year, flying home from Milan, the computers at Malpensa went down causing us to be late into amsterdam. NW would not let us board our flight because they had closed the cabin door, even though the plane sat on the ground for another half hour while they tried to load an oversize piece of luggage.
This year, after an aircraft change in Detroit , we were delayed because someone forgot to fill the watersystem. On the return, approx 30 minutes out from amsterdam, the pilot announced that there was an unidentified piece of luggage on board and that we would have to dump our fuel and return. In spite of all this, if the price was right, I'd book tomorrow. Oh yeah, the food was good and the flight attendants were excellent.

One quick thing-I forgot to mention the worst part of the entire ordeal for my little snookums-because we missed another connection, NW put us up at a hotel in Minneapolis that is across from the Mall of the Americas--and the mall was closed.

We use Northwest/KLM all of the time since we live in the Detroit area, which is a hub. We have never had a problem. Our last trip to London was great. Since the flight wasn't sold out, I was able to have a middle row to myself to sleep.

We flew NW/KLM from Minneapolis to Amsterday to Milan in May. The flight was an hour late leaving Minneapolis, but we still arrived on time in Amsterday. The return flight from Rome to Detroit was a nightmare. We sat on the ground in the plane for three hours because of mechanical problems. The attendants brought us one small cup of water during the three hours. Shortly after we finally took off we were served a light lunch. We didn't see the attendants again for 6 hours when they served us the worst pizza and cookies I have ever eaten. I have never seen such hostile attendants on any other flight. They informed the person ahead of me that he was not paying for the food, only the seat, so he was lucky to get any food at all. I guess since I usually fly British Air from Phoenix to London when we go to Europe we are accustomed to better service. I would not fly them again unless they were considerably cheaper than any other airline.

We fly Northwest almost exclusively, due to our location. While I won't say they are superior to other airlines, the WorldPerks program is outstanding, their online booking is extremely easy and low fares are regularly available. When glitches have occurred, we've been well compensated.

Almost all airlines are the same. NWA excells in oversea scheduling from its HUBS and the friendlyness of its flight attendents. As an example, say hello to Linda Carlson on your next MSP/AMS trip. She is the BEST!

Hartport? Do you realize there are about 1,800,999,000 Linda Carlson's in Minneapolis alone?

Message: John: You are right it wasn't a 767 but you are wrong it was a DC 10. Northwest doesn't only fly 747's. No big deal.
