In the interests of keeping it simple -

Pick up an Eyewitness/DK London Guide or similar. Eyewitness is good for visual big picture when your still at a vague stage.

Read the leading and trailing sections for information on how to withdraw money (atm) and how basic transport works. Other than that, tuck your money & passport away in a hidden pouch somewhere, keeping looking right when stepping off the curb and you're ready. London's easy.

For sights, well... look for the pics in the book that you recognize. Tower of London, etc. Write those down or circle them. See where they are on a map (get one of those too). Then read descriptions for the other stuff, and you'll have to start cutting away things you won't have time for. All depends on what you like doing, not what I like doing. The British Museum for me... but maybe not so much for you.

Your title says "Europe" but your post only mentions London for 4 days. What ARE you asking? Where else, when, what sorts of things are you concerned about?

Get your money and paperwork organized. Have more than one source of obtaining funds. Don't loose your passport. Pack light.

If you have four full days, I would plan one big thing each day---sometimes for morning, sometimes for afternoon, and sometimes for evening. Then you can fill in with activities you find of interest when you get there. It seems like you're not that "into" planning, but having one big event planned per day can help your trip take shape and keep you from wasting your time in London. Have fun!

'What to look out for / be wary of?'

What a strange attitude to start your holiday with.

anyway,
be wary of getting bitten by rabid dogs
watch out for UFOs
watch out for cars when crossing the road
be wary of anyone shorter than you
