Kindle 3G in France - Your Experience?

Jump to last reply

I bought a Kindle 3G for my mother-in-law. At the same time, they ordered themselves two Kindle wifis. They live in France for a lot of the year, but will use their U.S. address and credit card to make the Amazon purchases.

They don't want the 3G because they are worried about unexpected 3G charges. It's hard to tell for certain, but I don't think there will be any. It looks like France charges VAT, but they do that whether you use the 3G service, or if you buy the book and download it onto your computer (I think).

They are planning on downloading ebooks to their computer, and then downloading them via USB cable to their Kindles. I think they will miss one of the best features of the Kindle (being able to download a book without the computer). I also think they are wrong about the 3G charges.

Can anyone here share their experience downloading ebooks to their Kindle in France?
