Kilkenny on a Sunday in April

From what I've read, the Cathedral and Rothe House will be open to visitors on Sunday afternoons, and the Castle will be open for a self guided tour as of 9:30 a.m. I wondered if local shops would be open on a Sunday -- the Design Centre's website wasn't working just now but I read somewhere else that it's open daily. We'd like to do some wandering in addition to the "famous sights" and I just want to make sure some things will be open! Thanks.
