My husband and I are visiting his brother and sister-in-law in Kiev, July 99. They will have lived there for over 18 months by then, are learning to speak Russian, and live downtown.
Any suggestions for easy travelling, sites, day trips? We will also have our 18month old son with us (eek!).
Thanks,
Shawn

Hi,
Kiev is a beautiful city.. it's pretty laid back compared to a fast-paced Moscow, so if you will have time, you may just want to explore it on your own.
A good idea would be to take a mini-cruise to Kaniv.. it takes several hours, and the sites around Dnieper river are stunning. Odessa is also a fun city to go to, if you will have time for that.
If you need assistance in getting visas to Ukraine or booking hotels in Kiev or anywhere in Ukraine, you can find that info at http://www.avana.net/~russiah/travel.htm
Happy Travels
I visited Kiev in 86, a long time ago. It was a beautiful city. St. Sophia's Cathedral is beautiful. The Museum of Russian Art and the Museum of Oriental and Western Art have works by Bellini, Ruebens, Velasquez and Goya. Definately try to go to a ballet or folk dance. Have a great time.
You are in for a marvellous time. Kyiv is a beautiful city with much to do and see.
