Kerouac - Current Favorite Wine Recommendations?
During our last stay in Paris, we enjoyed the nice, well-priced red from Ed/Dia you recommended. Just wondering if you have any similar current favorites since we're again in Paris for a week.

I drank a bottle of the excellent Château Beaucastel-Laroussie ("Bordeaux supérieur") just last night. I continue to be amazed at how good it is for just about 2.50€.
Frankly, I have no other recommendations at the moment although I bought what should be a very good bottle of Bordeaux supérieur at Franprix this week for just over 4€ -- it was the recommended Franprix Bordeaux so you get an additional discount if you have the Franprix fidelity card.
Basically, I think it is quite sad that many people do not trust wines sold for less than 5€ in France. Some of them are not good, but at least you haven't wasted much money if you make the wrong choice -- and some of them are excellent, and you can buy them again and again.

Every time I visit Paris I grab a few bottles of Chateau Haut Rolland from the local Carrefours. I tried it a few years ago and continue to enjoy it. I believe it's around 4 euros.
I'm always reluctant to try something else less expensive. As you mentioned, Kerouac, I tend to stay away from something that's 2.50 for no particular reason except I think it's too cheap to be delicious. But next trip, I will experiment more. I will definitely look for the bordeaux you recommended (wonder if Carrefours has it?).
If you have any other suggestions, please post them!

Our family of 4 arrives in Paris on 14 June for 5 days, staying in an apartment on Rue Pierre Lescot. I've never stayed in the Marais before and haven't been to Paris in 13 years so am starting afresh.

My Carrefour City has a nice 2011 Roche Mazet Merlot from the Pays d'Oc for 3€ a bottle. The Monoprix supermarkets have a series of varietals they offer for about 4€ a bottle and they're fairly consistent.

We rarely spend more than 5 euro for a bottle of wine when we are holidaying in France. And they are usually very acceptable. Because we self cater we tend to buy most of our wine at the supermarket. But have bought some at wine co-ops in some regions. If we are staying in a wine producing region, we like to drink wines from that region. There are so many that are less well known, well to overseas travellers at least. For example, we really enjoy wine from the Corbieres. And last year we spent a week in the Aveyron, in Marcillac which produces very nice wine. Also St Pourcain sur Sioule in the Allier. Looking forward to a stay in L'Herault next time.

The Monoprix on Rue St Antoine has a very good wine cave - we tried lots of different, inexpensive bottles during our five night stay directly opposite in December - tried never to choose the cheapest bottles, but tried to buy a couple of inexpensive bottles each night to compare and enjoy.

There's a Dia store a block from our apartment so we bought some earlier today. It's as good as I remember from the last trip. Cost - 2,69E. Why pay 6-7E or more when you can find good drinkable wine like this?
