How long is your stay?
Are you considering Holiday apartments?
try
www.kandersteg.ch/en/index.cfm for lists of hotels,
holiday apts and B&B's.
I stayed there for 2 weeks several years ago--loved it!
Plenty of hiking and well-situated for daytrips!
Don't miss the mountain lake Oeschinensee.
Probably a week - I've been in the Murren/Grindlewald valley before and would like to try something new. Yes, we would like a holiday apartment. Any leads on that?
Use the above website to search accomodations.
Under "apartment list/search"
choose Berner Oberland , then the town of Kandersteg.
You can choose the number of stars (Sterne).
For example, under *** (3 star), there are 77 choices listed.
Further refine by your trip dates and you are off.
Photos and descriptions are included.
Happy hunting!
Further search finds Bluemlisalpblock at 90-150 CHF/night
Atelier Haus Egger at 100CHF/night
Chalet Baergli at 55-90 CHF/ night...
prices depend on the time of year with high seasons during winter/ski and summer/hiking. Prices generally a little less with one week stays, but beware the Endreinigung, or final cleaning fee, which can be stiff.
Most apts on the list have a link to their website for further info and price inquiries.
This is the same reply I just shared on an older post on the same subject:
I have not been on Fodors for a while, and it has been even longer sine we were last in Kandersteg, but I could not reccomend Kandersteg more! We have been twice, the last time in 2007. We rented chalet Stuchen in Kandersteg and could not have been happier. A few years earlier we stayed at Chalet Alpentraum. In Zermatt we stayed at the Artist Apartments and had amazing views of the Matterhorn.

Thanks for the responses. Kandersteg looks lovely - we saw it only briefly on the way to Zermatt on the train and I wanted to go back. Now we have the chance! I am looking into your great suggestions.
Here is the second part of our Swiss/German video to illustrate our time in Kandersteg, Zermatt and Munich.
