June Provence Itinerary - Go to Sault??
I'm going to Provence from June 29-July 2. Staying 1 night in Aix-en-Provence and 2 nights in St. Remy. My planned itinerary so far is:
- 1 day in Aix - market in the morning, going on a wine tasting trip in the afternoon, night in Aix
- 1 day driving around towns further east - definitely planning to go to Arles, maybe Uzes and/or Les Beaux, night in St Remy
- 1 day doing a lavendar tour - drive out to Sault, explore areas around there, driving tour, stop at Gordes on the way back to St Remy
- last day driving from St Remy to Lyon - possibly stop at Chateau Neuf du Pape on the way
My main question is whether it makes sense to try and fit Sault into this itinerary or are there more things closer to where we'll be that would be better? I am eager to get some beautiful scenery and lavender fields so it seemed like a logical destination but I don't know much about whether it's worth the trek or if Gordes will do the trick.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks!

First off, Arles/Uzès/Les Baux/St-Rémy are all west of Aix, not east.
There's some question about when the lavender in the Lubéron area is going to be in full bloom, spring having arrived late this year.

There's plenty of lavender in other areas than Sault (around Apt and Gordes, Mt Ventoux, etc), so I wouldn't go there given your other plans, especially given you are so early in the season, there are no guarantees it will be worth it. It usually doesn't start full blooming in Sault until mid-July, I believe, although it will be in bud earlier so some color.

Thanks for the advice - it does seem like it's not worth it to drive so far when there are many things to see closer to St Remy.
Do either of you know of places we could go where they would be harvesting lavender and might offer tours? Or is it too early in the season for that?
Thanks!
