Julian Alps, Slovenia - Where to spend the night?

Jump to last reply

Hi Fodorites! You have helped me so much so far on my April - May 2009 trip to Croatia and Slovenia.
I have one last decision to finalize my plans.

I have planned 3 nights for Bled, 1 night Ljubjana, and the last night Zagreb Airport region at the end of our trip.

QUESTION:
We will arrive at the end of the day in Bled and were going to spend 3 night. (Would just give us 2 full days)

HOWEVER - I really want to do the drive thru the Julian Alps and was wondering if anyone has experienced the drive. We are thinking of leaving Bled after the second night , head for the "hills" of the Alps and rather than return to Bled for the planned 3rd night, just stay in Trenta, Kobarid or somewhere inbetween in the Alps for the 3rd night and then just complete the drive for the next night into Ljubljana.

Is this a good idea? Has anyone stayed in the mountains? Where did you stay and can you recommend a Tourist Farm or suitable place?
If the weather is nice (May 6) I think the mountain stay would be lovely.

I am thinking this way we can go more leasurely and stop more often in the Alps and ENJOY>

Thanks for any future opinions or recommendations.

Mary Ann
