Journees du Patrimoine
We'll be in Paris next month and are curious about the Journees du Patrimoine. I've checked the website, and it basically says you can just show up but gives no details that I can find about procedure.
I assume lines vary in length according to the venue. Naturally, we're interested in the Elysees Palace but are wondering whether we'd have an easier time at Matignon, the residence of the PM in the rue de Varenne. Anyone have a guesstimate of what the wait times are likely to be based on past experience?
Thanks.

I'm hoping for some response to your post since we plan to be in Paris that weekend too. I do remember that maitaitom visited the Hotel de Ville and other sites last year and wrote about it in his trip report. I need to go back and read that.

Both the Elysée and the Matignon have about the longest lines in France for visits. Last year, people waited up to 8 hours to enter the Elysée Palace. A place like the Assemblée Nationale takes about 3 hours.
My own goal is to visit the underground Montsouris reservoir.

Here is our two days last year (words and photos) in Paris visiting sites for the Journees du Patrimoine.
Highly recommend gong to Hôtel de Ville...Spectacular. Highlight of our trip (except for some great dinners)

Thanks for the replies. We're thinking of trying for the Senate, in the Luxembourg Gardens. Their own website says the wait seldom exceed a half hour, although I've read elsewhere that it can be significantly longer.
Giving up on the Elysees, as I expected. Maybe we'll pass by Matignon late in the afternoon; the crowd may have thinned by then.

If you plan to go anywhere "later" - be aware of the closing time, and know that the agents will come out about 30 mins or so before that to count the people who will be allowed inside - the rest who have waited in line will be out of luck.
If you can possibly go early, you should. Security will be stepped up more this year, so things will move more slowly. We have never gone to the Elysees or Matignon, but have missed out on other things we really wanted to see because we went too late.
