Je cherche another city base in France

Looking for another city to base ourselves in France....Been to Paris several times and Lyon

Any other suggestions? Mid -size city would be great with the possibility of taking a day trip or two to other areas..
Merci

I second Montpelier (only one "l" in the French spelling). In Vermont it has two l's.

Sorry, Waldo, it's the other way around - one "l" only in the Vermont spelling.

StCirq- You are right. I'm sorry. I did not know what the "L" I was thinking when I wrote that. I love that town (the French one, I mean).

Nah, not Bordeaux....unless you've been to France about a dozen times and been everywhere else....

oh cr*p. I missed the second "l"

BUT we did spend a great weekend in Montpellier and I'd go back again, anytime. It looks like a VERY livable city.

Rouen. Charming old town centre, loads to see and do, great restaurants, not too far from Paris, easy trips to loads of nearby gardens and châteaux - even to the Normandy coast.

Montpellier or Aix.

Easier to travel by train from Montpelier. How far away from Paris were you thinking?
