Ditto StCirq.
They should try the right bank for duc des lombards www.ducdeslombards.com It's not far from the river and the music and atmosphere is great.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll pass the info along to DH and son so they so check both out.
Caveau des Oubliettes, 52 rue Galande in the Latin Quarter, not far from Caveau de la Huchette. There is a real guillotine in the bar on the ground floor, and there is a room downstairs for music in the dungeon.
My son liked the idea of your suggestion, Nikki! A real guillotine! I think they are going on line tonight to see - if possible - what sort of jazz is being offered at each the nights they are in Paris.
Here is a listing and calendar of many of the jazz venues from the Paris jazz radio station (which you can listen to on line):

I think most of the clubs that actually play jazz are Rive Droit... a few also on Rive Gauche..
Here is a list from the Tourist office:

Another vote for the Caveau des Oubliettes. They run regular jam sessions that are great fun to attend. Blues jam on Sunday evenings, jazz jam on Tuesday evenings. Free entry, but you have to buy a drink.
Plus the floor of the ground-floor bar is covered with real turf.
And if you are feeling brave you can wander round the old dungeons too. (not for the faint-hearted!)

Thanks - just sent the info on to DH
