Jardin d'Acclimatation - fun or tacky (or both?)

We'll be in Paris on our daughter's 5th birthday and are looking for something fun and special to do with her. I've read mixed (mostly good, but also fairly old) reviews of the Jardin d'Acclimatation -- any insight fellow travelers can share would be much appreciated! Other ideas are welcome, too. Thanks much.

I never thought the Jardin d'Acclimatation was tacky. When my kids were little they loved to ride on the carousel there.

They also loved the little pedal cars you could rent in the Luxembourg gardens, and the guignols. and the pedal boats in the Bois de Boulogne. And the Cité de Science.

But mine are grown up now, so it's been quite a few years.......

I think it would be fun (I've been there sans kids, at least by it) and not exactly tacky, but it isn't hitech sophisticated stuff. That may be fine for a 5 year old, but I don't know that I'd make a special trip out there for that, myself. I think there would be other things just as enjoyable. I mainly was out there to go to the Folkart Museum next to it, which I quite enjoyed. With a 5 year old, you might not be doing museums, I don't know.

I don't know how special this day has to be, but I'd think the Jardin du Ranelagh in the 16th arr near the Marmottan museum could be enough fun, also. They still have the pony rides there (actually, I think they may have been donkeys last time I was there), a carousel, lots of kids playing in the special playground area, etc. It's easier to get to than Jardin d'Acclimatation.

You don't say when this visit is going to take place which makes a difference, but a trip to a French circus sounds like more fun to me.

The zoo in the Parc de Vincennes is very nice. It has a little tourist-train you can ride around with and the animals are not in cages--they live in more natural surroundings separated from people by moats, etc. (metro Port d'Oree, not Vincennes)
