January 2018 vacation location ideas

Hello!

We have 10 days off at the end of January 2018 - looking for help narrowing down vacation ideas! Will have our 2-year old with us. Somewhere we can walk around easily (put baby in either carrier or stroller is fine depending on cobblestones) and eat great local food is a must. We love exploring local markets, city sights, etc - will do a museum now and then, but it is not a priority. Like nature, but with the child, short easy hikes only. We are NOT beach/resort-type people.

We have been to Alaska, England, Thailand/Laos, and Peru with our son so are used to travelling with a child.

Trying to avoid the rain as much as possible (we know, hard in Europe in January) is a priority as well.

Thinking of Spain vs Portugal vs Mallorca vs Malta vs Canary Islands.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

PS - Looking for a Zika-free and <20 hour flight since we only have 10 days this time - so Asia/South America/South Pacific/most of Africa is out for us. We have been to (and loved!) Morocco.

Thank you!

The Canary Islands would be best.

Do you mind sharing a bit more re: Canary Islands? We are coming from Ohio so don't need it to be hot! It seems like January is high season for the Canary Islands and that is mostly resorts, beaches, drinking. . .not really our thing esp with a toddler. We are definitely ACTIVE vacationers (exploring the town), and do not sit around our hotel room, in a pool, on the beach, etc

Instead of Canary islands, check out the Azores. More natural, off the Portugese coast. Certainly not warm. i was briefly considering them for March. Seem a fair alternative to Canaries, but even they hsve more to them than fly and flop resorts.....sorta like Mexican Rivera. Yucatan is NOT Cancun.....

No, the Azores is too cold and windy then. Better to go there between June and August when the profusion of flowers is glorious.
Sure the Canaries have resorts, but there are areas much less developped like La Palma and Gomera. Temp in January is very acceptable.

3000 year old and genuine Málaga has the best both traditional and cutting edge food scene, great historic sights right in the city center, it's the major museum city in Andalucía, and you have the marvellous Atarazanas Food market in the very heart of town. It comes with a warning ;-) https://eastofmalaga.net/2014/07/25/...ry-perception/

Málaga has got about the best winter climate in Europe, statistics for January says highs at 63F and night lows at 46-50F and usually much sun. (wetteronline.de)

A little more about Málaga, have come back here almost every year since 2002: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/andalucia/malaga
