It's Never too Early to Start Planning! Right?

After being disappointed that my plans to return to Paris this summer had to be put on hold due to needing to replace our HVAC unit we have decided to focus on Summer 2014: The Graduation and BIG Zero Birthdays Trip! Unfortunately we also have to replace our roof due to storm damage and insurance isn't covering the whole thing. I'm going to make lemonade though darn it.

My mom and I sat down with the kids and talked about saving for this big trip which would probably be one of the last time's N traveled with us once he started college and maybe one of the last times we could afford Europe while paying for said college. We already have a cruise planned and paid for this summer as a replacement trip and will forego a real vacation in 2013 in favor of a couple long weekends nearby.

N's big dream graduation trip is Italy. My mom and I both have big birthdays in 2014 and we would rather spend them in Paris. With the way dates fall I will spend my birthday in Rome and she will spend hers in Paris. Our plan is to fly to Rome and spend 4 nights hitting the highlights, move on to Tuscany for a week visiting hill towns, Florence, Pisa/Lucca and the beach and then fly to Paris for a week to see the things we missed the first time and just soak up the atmosphere that we fell in love with.

So I am putting this out to the Universe that I have a plan and nothing you can throw at me will stop me this time! I will get guidebooks and peruse hundreds of websites to find the perfect villa or apartment. I will spend hours on Fodor's and TA and wherever else I can find reading trip reports and jotting notes. I WILL go to Italy and Paris!
