Itinerary Nice to Toulouse

Hi we are going to arrive in Nice, stay two nights.
The plan is to drive to Marseille for lunch, then on to Avignon to spend two nights.
We would then go to Montpellier for two nights, and then train to Toulouse for the conference.
Total is fourteen days. I would actually like to cut one day out if it made sense. I do have one extra day though(in this fourteen) that I could add one night in. So it could be three instead of two at Nice, Avignon or Montpellier.

Is driving also crazy. I did map quest it. or should we hire a driver or do the train?

We are mid- fifties so do like to spend a min.of two nights somewhere,and not moving around too much.
