We are beginning to piece together ideas for a 3 week trip to Europe. This is our second trip and we are hoping the forum will, as always have some stellar suggestions.
Dear spouse and myself (age 50's) plan to start by flying into Saltzberg or Vienna ( which ever our frequent flyer miles takes us) . Stay in Vienna for 1.5 week using public transport only to explore surronding areas. From Vienna train to Firenze to Lucca area with a short trip to check out Elba island. We will be meeting up with a friend in Lucca but the rest is open time. We figure overnight train to Italy would work well.
Is this too much for a 3 week stint?. We are in good health, not afraid of walking/hiking. Got the one bag carry on down. We would like to stick to using only public transit to keep the car driving out of the equation. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance!

Oh, you're going to have such a wonderful time. Salzburg is my favorite, but Vienna is lovely too. If you do go to Salzburg, make sure to visit Mozart's house. Florence is wonderful too. I agree, avoid driving if you can.
Yes the plan is no cars! Any other suggestions for apt rental or cottages?
Anyone been to Elba?
Thank you!
